Hey,

I have a lot of fields for users and the profile page has just become a giant long list, is there any way to convert this to say tabs – or something similar?

Tabs (I use the term loosely, is already built in to Buddypress. Just create new field groups.

Hi, You could edit wp-content\themes\kleo\buddypress\members\single\profile\profile-loop.php and add a tabs structure taken from existing tabs shortcode

@kieran Ah! I finally get what you were talking about. It presents them in tabbed format if you are editing your profile, but not when its being displayed to others. If you havent figure out a solution to this, I plan on doing it next week.

I agree. I have a list of fifty language options (“other languages you speak”) on my profile page. On the edit page it looks great… they are displayed in a wide box right across the page and it only takes up four few lines, but on the actual page it’s a huge list. is there any way to get it to display like the edit page?

Sorry for the length of time with replying.

Whilst I get by in WP I don’t have the skillset to do anything like this @sharmstr so I am very much looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

P.s @Abe it would seem there is a minor bug if a field title is greater than 17 characters rather than wrapping it’s adding … and missing off the rest. Any chance of a change to this?

Hi Kieran, Buddypress adds a filter to that content and adds the dots there.

@metalmick, we will think of something and maybe add a tab structure there.

There was plans for this to be done a long time ago.

But they were my plans. I dont work here. I decided not to do them because I didnt need them. You’ll have to do it yourself or add it to the feature requests thread. There’s no guarantee that they will be added.

Well as a paying customer for a product, and there are now people that are not employees with titles, this makes it all a little confusing. Don’t you think? You left the thread in limbo stating you would do it next week over a year ago. Would have been nice to have known that it was something you decided not to do. That way other new people like me (paying customers) would not have assumed. Next time maybe let expecting people know that you can not fulfill your promise. People understand if you lose interest and you are not an employee. Just say so and let the thread die so new people that buy Kleo theme can start a new topic appropriately with out being put down for not knowing you do not work here.

Facts are I am a paying customer asking for help. You have a title of someone in the company. I do not dislike you at all, and have seen you help many people here, in good ways. I just do not like how I have been treated for asking help for design on this theme I paid for.

I know better than to refer people here to buy this theme now.

@sharmstr I do not mean anything bad to you at all. I have been able to tweak my theme here without having to re-ask questions already asked and answered. I am one of those customers that knows how to search and use the forums to get answers so not to make the help area answer the same ones over and over. I have seen you help a lot of people here and some answers even helped me without asking directly. Thank You.

Well I havetweaked my theme many times with your help. I have just been waiting for help with the profile tabs. I am not good at coding but can follow directions to do so. If it is not easy for you to do let meh know. =) I really appreciate your involvement and ty beforehand if it works or not.

Okay. Here’s my hack. All I did is generate the tabs shortcode. If the kleo team were to code this, it would be much different, therefore I’m not going to submit it to them for inclusion into the theme.

Download the attached file.
Change .txt to .php
Save to /kleo-child/buddypress/members/single/profile/profile-loop.php

Things to note
1 – I used the “line” style tabs because I thought they looked better than the square tabs. You can change the style by editing the vc_tab shortcode on line 9.
2 – I will not provide on-going support for this.
3 – I will not help you customize it.
4 – I have to be a b-word about 2&3 because I just dont have time. Sorry.
5 – With all of that said, I only tested with 4 tabs with 1 text field in each tab. If you find something that doesnt work, I will help sort that out. You will need to provide me a link to your site so I can see what’s going on.
