Hello. I’m a total newbie with all of this website building stuff. I have lots of questions, and I’m having difficulty tracking down answers in the forum (possibly because I don’t know what I’m looking for – and there’s a lot of information here). I think I’ve also looked through every single link and page in my WP-Admin trying to find ways to achieve whatever goal I have, but some I just can’t figure out how to find. If you could answer or direct me to answers it would be greatly appreciated.
So here goes the first series of Questions:
1. How do I restrict access to links on my website? In particular, I can access ‘friends’, ‘activity’, and ‘members’ when I visit the page.
2. Where is the ‘PHP’ coding (How do I find it)? How do I implement any coding provided in your forums? Where do I find the places add code? I’m not seeing any of the places in my theme where I can do so.
3. How do I upload different icons? I’m only seeing what looks like a file address or something in the box above the icons.
4. I’m getting telling me some buddypress components (‘activate’ and ‘register’) don’t have wordpress pages. It gives me an option to ‘repair’. I had repaired it, but I don’t know what it did and what it’s for, so I undid that action. What is this and what do I do with it?
5. Where is the ‘sweetdate – memberships’ link that I’ve read about in the forums?
6. (Perhaps this is where I can do some of these actions) Where is the ‘child theme’? What’s that do?
Thanks.
March 20, 2014 at 00:39 #13016snromanceParticipantThanks in advance for your reply. I just found your documentation I think in an html doc titled ‘index’. giving it a read right now, but if these questions can be more easily answered here in the forum, I would appreciate your feedback on them.
March 20, 2014 at 19:23 #13073snromanceParticipant4. I guessed. I chose to link ‘register’ with wp ‘signup’ page, and ‘activate’ with wp ‘account’ page. The message is gone. However, I would like to know your recommendation on the most appropriate wp pages that buddypress should be linked to. Thanks.
March 20, 2014 at 22:06 #13105snromanceParticipantNew Question.
7. What’s all the kleo stuff at the bottom of appearance – widgets? Can you elaborate on those? Are they required? Thanks.
March 20, 2014 at 22:37 #13107snromanceParticipant8. I can’t find the wordpress importer after installing. How do I do this? Can you please elaborate on this as well? Thanks.
Here are the instructions you’ve provided:
If WordPress importer is not installed, go ahead and install it. Run the importer. Choose the demo-sweetdate.xml file located in ../Demo content/demo-sweetdate.xml
Since v1.3 we have added demo-woocommerce.xml which contains sample product for you to import.
After the file is uploaded make sure to assign Authors and import Attachments.
That’s it, all demo data has been imported.March 20, 2014 at 22:44 #13110snromanceParticipant9. I don’t have an option for ‘sweetdate’ menu. What do I do now?
Your instructions:
Pages and Menu
——————————————————————————–
Menu
Set the menu via WP Admin → Appearance → Menus → Theme Locations → set to SweetdateMarch 22, 2014 at 00:29 #13189AbeKeymasterHi,
Please see the video tutorial and I am sure a great part of your questions will be answered
1, 5. Install Paid memberships Pro plugin and you will have the option to set restrictions from WP admin – Sweetdate – Memberships
2. PHP is the programming language. You connect by FTP to your site and add the required code usually in wp-content/themes/sweetdate-child/functions.php but it is best to hire a programmer if you do not have programming knowledge.
3. Icons are added by CSS and you can see them here: http://fontawesome.io/3.2.1/cheatsheet/
4,6. See the video. Install the provided sweetdate-child.zip theme and activate it
7. Not required. They are optional widgets that you can use
8. see the video
9. after the import a menu will be imported. You can also create your own in there5.

After sending the original post, I decided to start over as completely as I could by reinstalling the theme…and actually reading the instructions. I also watched the video today.
1. successfully installed after reinstalling sd.
2. I found the file there. However, I don’t know what to do with it…yet. Do I need some kind of program or software, or would my host provide a tool, in order to edit, add code or otherwise? In other words, what would I normally do to access the file?
3. Would I access the “edit CSS” link on my wordpress admin page in order to upload any icons?
4,6. I think I’m good to go now that I followed the instructions and installed the child theme.
5. Got it after reinstalling and following the instructions.
7. Got it.
8. Got it. I found it by going back to ‘tools’ > ‘import’.
9. Got it.I’m still reading through the instructions. I’m at “pages and menu”.
More to follow 🙂 …
March 26, 2014 at 00:05 #13498snromanceParticipant10. I’ve made a number of changes since following the instructions in the child theme. In particular, I’m curious about my menu. In ‘child’ my menu was all jumbled. I also saw the shortcode below it (I’ve read about it before, so I figured it was normal). When I changed to the SD theme my menu was reverted to a menu I customized on the first installation of your theme. I had to go back and change the location settings in order to get the SD menu.
I was under the impression that changes I make on the ‘child’ theme would be seen on the SD theme. Can you help with this?March 26, 2014 at 21:25 #13540snromanceParticipantI’m timid about continuing any editing until I get an answer on number 10. But I’ve been building a new menu in the meantime to include past items with new items. Here are my issues so far.
11. My SD menu links are duplicated, i.e. welcome welcome features features bbpress bbpress…and so on. What’s up with this?
12. I can’t find the welcome, features, bbpress, and buddypress menu items to add to my created menu, yet they appear on my website. How can I get access to those menu items to add them to my custom menu? What I considered doing was modifying the SD menu to my liking then renaming it before I save changes. However, I don’t know whether to do this in SD or child, or whether making those changes to the SD menu would affect functionality…plus there is the issue with the duplicates.
Thanks again for your support.
March 26, 2014 at 22:18 #13552snromanceParticipantOh yeah.
13. Editing pages in WP admin. Can I delete the non-English language from the SD pages (for example, the ‘reasons to join’ page)? Would I need to use the child theme for this action?
March 27, 2014 at 19:17 #13624snromanceParticipant14. I went to the geonames website, created an account, and added my username in WP where it told me to (which is another problem because I can’t find out where in WP admin I did that in the first place). The end result: autofill isn’t working for me. How do I accomplish this? How do I add the city autofill? Can it be done with ‘state’ as well?
Looking forward to your reply on all my questions 🙂
March 27, 2014 at 19:28 #13628snromanceParticipant14* I found it again; ‘geonames username’ under sweetdate > buddypress. However, I’m still stuck with autofill not working…
March 29, 2014 at 02:13 #13736AbeKeymaster10,11. About the menu. Since they are somehow considered different themes you just go to Appearance – Menus and set your menu to the Primary location
12. You fill find all your pages in the left menu from Appearance – Menu. You can delete the imported menu and create your own with your own pages from the left side area. You can enable Buddypress related links also from Screen options(top right in the page) – Buddypress
13. You can delete any pages you want. Those are not related tot the theme used since are stored in your site database
14. Make sure to match you country and city fields also in Sweetdate – Buddypress so the system knows the fields to create the autocomplete
