I am building a new home page for our site using Essential Grid.  I created some tags specifically for stories that I want to show in the 4 sections of the new home page(located at: http://freedomleaf.com/freedom-leaf-magazine-home-page-design-redux/)

I have a couple of questions regarding Essential Grid settings:

    1. I set the 4 grids on the page (see link) to show 8 stories/posts.  I have tagged 8 stories/posts with the keyword I want to show for each section.  However, I have found that if I add one of the tags for each grid to another post (for example, add “fresh off the press” to a 9th post) it shows that post in the grid, regardless of me telling it to show only 8, and screws up the look/layout of the grid, by showing 9 posts.

So….how do I make it so the grid only shows the LATEST 8 (or whatever number of posts I ultimately decide to have shown…I may make it less than 8) so that when a new post with that keyword is published, it shows that one and the oldest post falls off of the grid.

I just don’t want to have to manually update each section of the home page every time one of our contributors posts a story….and want to make sure their story shows up on the home page grid where they want it to, without screwing up the look of the grid.

    2. The grids seem to load very slowly.  The page loads fine, but it takes a little bit for the grid images to show up.  Any way of speeding that up?  Was thinking of having it maybe only show 5-6 posts…instead of 8.  But not sure if that will help.

    Thanks

Yes it does. I activated the theme “Twenty Sixteen” (if that’s what you meant by default wordpress theme) and it does the same thing. See attached screen shot

    Hi,

This it means that it’s not a theme problem you should simply go to that grid settings and to limit the number of the posts …. with minus 1

Ah!! OK…well that was easy. I was telling it on the Grid Settings page to show 8 posts, and it was showing 9….so you see my confusion.

I assume now that I set the max entries to 5 (they want 5 now, not 8) that it will show the 5 latest, by date? So when a new post is posted, the oldest one will fall off?

    Thanks Radu

I marked this as resolved…but then remembered that I had another issue with Essential Grid…#2 in my original post….the issue with load speed. The page fully loads except for the grids. Any way of speeding up the grids load time?

The temp page again is: http://freedomleaf.com/freedom-leaf-magazine-home-page-design-redux/

    Thanks

It also doesn’t seem to be showing the latest posts by date. I just added a new post, for example, with the Tag (I am organizing the essential grid posts by tags, vs categories) “Changing Lives”…I posted a new article today, tagged it with “changing lives”, and it doesn’t seem to be showing up in the grid.

What am I doing wrong…or what am I missing?

    Thanks

    Hi,

For improving the page speed you can use a cache plugin like w3 total cache then read this guide : http://seventhqueen.com/blog/code-snippets/the-definitive-wordpress-speed-guide-step-by-step-easy.html another plugin but more simple its Wp Super Cache : https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-super-cache/, for the sorting thing I recommend you to read and search for dedicated guidance for that plugin in their documentation : https://www.themepunch.com/essgrid-doc/essential-grid-documentation/

    Cheers

OK…I am using W3 total cache already. It’s really more that the essential grid sections take longer to load. The page itself loads fast and fine. If it were the entire page/site then yes, I would think some of the page speed tweaks would help. But what I need to load faster are just the items related to the plugin. But Anyway…OK, I will look at the links you sent.

The other link helped…found what I needed there and how to fix the date issue. I had it organized by”descending” date vs “ascending” date….I guess I thought descending meant latest post to oldest post. Switched it to ascending and that worked.

    Thanks Radu
