What’s the difference between favorites and likes? Wouldn’t it be best just to have one or the other, not both?

On posts there’s a Like button (using a heart icon, which seems odd choice as that would depict ‘love’ to most people) and then in things like the activity feed there’s favorite button (using star icon). I’m confused that I can both like an article, and then also favorite it in the activity feed. They are both independent of each other, but seem to mean the same thing?

From what I can tell, there’s no way to list my likes or favourites, but there is a way to filter activity to favourites (but not likes). Assuming that filtering activity to favourites is a way to list favourites, then would it be worth replacing ‘like’ on articles with a star to favorite? That way if someone favorites an activity update about me posting an article, they would be favoriting the article as well.

The difference is that one is controlled by WordPress and one is controlled by BuddyPress. The only part that Kleo plays in all of this is the icons they choose to use to represent those functions.

If you add rtMedia Pro, you’ll get another “like”.

If you add BuddyPress Like, you get even another like. Though the developer is working on combining WP likes with his plugin. Then you can hide BP favorites.

Its a joke, but not Kleo’s fault or responsibility to combine all of them.

I’ve looked through the BP settings screens and couldn’t see an option to turn off favorites – any pointers? I guess I could just use CSS, but the HTML and favorite-related features like activity stream filter items will still be there.

I agree that it isn’t Kleo theme responsibility to change WP or the other 3rd party plugins, however it should try where possible to give a consistent UI.

Is there a way to list liked posts?

It’s super confusing. Guess what happens if you add a Facebook social plugin 😉 Yet another like…

Not sure how to best fix this as I do like the option to just ‘like’something outside of Facebook (and you can change trhe KLEO like terms in the back end).

Yup, it’s as if there is a battle in the plugin community between developers wanting to make their own facebook and developers wanting to extend twitter in to something more like facebook. In recent days I’m leaning more towards the twitter camp in relation to friends vs. followers, but more towards the facebook camp in relation to favourites vs. like. These days most people you meet online aren’t really friends, they are just really interesting folks that you want to follow, and likewise I don’t have any ‘favourite’ content, I just ‘like’ lots of things.

    As the infamous quote illustrates…

We just wanted as a feature where people can show its appreciation on post. Those can be listed with the ItemLikes widget in the sidebar

What can I say, you can just disable the Like from Theme options 🙂
That is just an option if you want to use it or go with another plugin that adds similar functionality

Yup, that’s quite nice. Just wish it was for likes rather than favourites tho heh.
