    Hi,

I want to customise my 404 page but not sure how to do it. On other themes, I’d edit the theme files directly, but I notice that Kleo has a 404 page template – I’m just not sure what to do with it. Do I create a page using that template and customise the page, or do I customise the template itself?

Hi, To customize the 404 page template you need to edit 404.php from the theme folder.

Hrm, that’s cumbersome. Would be much nicer if I could create a normal page on the site, and then have 404 page redirected to it.

For example, I create a page called “404” with a slug of “404” then in theme settings I choose that page from drop down list and from that point on any 404 will redirect me to my 404 page in WP.

On my custom page I can use normal editing tools, eg. visual composer, to create a fully customised design. I guess only downside is that some required HTML headers (are there any?) would be missing?

That will be nice and will write it down for a future update. WordPress by default gets the 404.php template from the theme

Abe good day, so please, I have a problem with the page 404. If I click on a non-existent page example http://lovelovely.ru/wp-content/gallery/1/season.html, me redirects to the page named “page not found” (see screenshot) instead of the correct 404.php (see screenshot). How to fix it?

If you have a non-existing page then that is normal to appear, the 404 template
