    Hi!

Is there a way to email all users (without they seeing that it is a group-email)?
If so, is there a way to email only registered members who has not become paying members yet?

    Best Regards,
    Oceanglim

    Hi,

There are many ways to mass email your users, some hosts offer mass mailing and some deny it, the best option is to use a service like MailChimp or SendGrid which (via a plugin of your choosing from the repo) syncs with your users and you can then mass mail through their site.

You can also create lists within these services which would be the best option to mail paying / non-paying members.

If you mass email from your own server you risk the possibility of being marked as spam which would stop your other emails getting through and may even cause your host to suspend services depending on their terms of service.

    Thanks,

    Kieran.

Thank you very much for your rather quick and well explained reply!
What do you mean by: “via a plugin of your choosing from the repo)”. What is “repo”?
Sorry, my mothertongue is not English :D..

    Thanks

    Hi,

Sorry about that, I shouldn’t have used an abbreviation. ‘Repo’ is the shortened word for repository, I was referring the the WordPress plugin repository which you can access via WP Admin by going to Plugins > Add New or browsing it on the WordPress site here https://wordpress.org/plugins/.

    Sorry for the confusion,

    Kieran.

    Hi,

You could try MailChimp User Sync https://wordpress.org/plugins/mailchimp-sync/ or MailChimp for WordPress by the same author https://wordpress.org/plugins/mailchimp-for-wp/.

    Hello again!
MailChimp User Sync is not tested with my version of WordPress. My question is….What could happen when a plugin is not tested with the version of wordpress one uses?

    Best Regards,
    Jenni

    Hi,

That is notice / warning that is given by WordPress to alert you that the author (or any user) has not stated whether it is working with or compatible with your current version. The plugin was last updated 4 months ago so it looks okay, but you can test locally or on a staging site (if your host supports this) if you have concerns. I personally recommend all WordPress site owners have a local or staging version of their site.

    Thanks,

    Kieran.

Thank you for your quick reply, but what do you mean by “local version of one’s site”?
My host doesn’t provide staging server, so I have a copy of my site at a subdomain.

Okay I’ll try it on my subdomain first. Thanks! 😀

    Hi,

A subdomain is a great solution if your host doesn’t offer staging sites. You should test within the subdomain to see if everything works okay for you.

A local site is where you develop your site on your computer before pushing changes to a live server, it works exactly like using staging or a subdomain but you will need software. You can use free software called XAMPP to install a local environment https://www.apachefriends.org/index.html and test any and all changes.

    Thanks,

    Kieran.

Thanks a lot for that information!
Comparing subdomain and local site, which is the best and for what reasons?
How do I download/copy the live site to the local site and back?

    Hi,

The subdomain will emulate your hosting environment exactly as it hosted on the same server. The benefit of using a localhost is in not using server resources that cost money like storage, bandwidth and CPU. To run your site locally you would have to make a copy via FTP of your subdomain, make a backup of your database in phpMyAdmin and change the URL in options table for the site once imported. You can read about that here https://managewp.com/how-to-create-a-local-copy-of-a-live-wordpress-site.

    Thanks,

    Kieran.
