December 9, 2014 at 15:32 #38313SplendorParticipant@sharmstr, I’m thinking of adding ssl to the whole site, but I don’t know how problematic it could be regarding the using kleo with buddypress and bbpress. Also the linking?
If it does slow down the site? As there is different approaches, some of them are by using SSL only on certain pages.
December 9, 2014 at 16:29 #38336sharmstrModeratorI haven’t experienced any issues with the whole site being over SSL. Obviously you’ll throw some non-damaging/non-displaying SSL errors when viewing an activity item (image, video) that is being served via http instead of https.
I haven’t done any formal testing but all of my sites are with the same host (read: same distance from me) and I haven’t noticed a noticeable difference speed difference between my ssl and no ssl sites.
If it were me, I’d stay away from severing some over ssl and some not.

December 9, 2014 at 18:38 #38362SplendorParticipant@sharmstr, ok. How can you possible solve that types problems with images? I’m using cdn with maxcdn, but I’ll have to go over their ssl cdn instead. Also, the biggest concern for me is, the linking of everything, will it be problem with that part? or does that solve it self?
December 11, 2014 at 14:46 #38573sharmstrModeratorI dont know how to avoid serving both ssl and non ssl media when you allow media to be displayed that isn’t hosted on your server.
The issue you’ll have when you switch to SSL is all of the hard-coded non ssl links in the db. For example, rtMedia and kleo hard-code http: to the db. You might have to run a sql script to change all http: to https:
