I went to install Kleo on my production server, it gave an error and kept saying “are you sure you want to do this”. OK, some weird hosting setting I guess. So I installed via FTP
The theme shows up fine.
I install the child theme the same way, via FTP, but it’s not showing up in themes.
Any idea?
Hello, try to reinstall but install the theme by ftp and child theme by wordpress admin section

Destination folder already exists. /var/www/wwmaa.org/wp-content/themes/kleo-child/
Theme install failed.
Hello, then delete the kleo-child folder at wp-content/themes and try again

This theme requires a parent theme. Checking if it is installed…
The parent theme could not be found. You will need to install the parent theme, kleo, before you can use this child theme.
Theme installed successfully.It says it installed, but can’t find the parent theme. When I go to the themes page, the main theme is there, but the child theme is not.

Well, the child theme is there, but you have lost all my customizations. There is about 2 hours work that you have lost.
Can you explain EXACTLY what you did?
Hmmm, you also somehow deleted ALL my widgets on the site, including all the ones that had custom text. How did you manage that?
I’m sorry if my colleague did so, I’m sure she just wanted to help, please switch your theme to the main Kleo theme where you should still have all modifications that you have made, secondly go in the theme options panel, backup the settings, change the theme to kleo child and import them back again in the theme options panel.
This happens because each child theme saves it’s settings separately.
Please let me know if it worked.

I backup up the settings this time. So I can now go back and forth.
BUT, each time I change between the main theme and the child them, ALL of my widgets are somehow deleted!!!!
Hello, you should have all settings at the child theme. All widgets and customization should always be at child theme, and its the one that should be activated always, you do not need to switch them, if your widgets dont appear at child theme is because you didnt add them there. All settings are saved at the database and i had only ftp credentials so i never touched the database, just reactivated the theme to appear at wordpress admin theme.

At the main theme, go to Tools > Widget Import/Export and export your widgets, then at child theme, at the same section, import them. Is the best way to copy your widgetsHi there!!!
