Accessing wp-admin after activating theme redirects to theme home page not word press admin page

When I activate the sweet date theme and then try to access wp-admin, it redirects to the home page. I cannot see the top admin bar or make any changes to the site anymore. When I manually rename the themes directory, I can access wp-admin. This indicates that sweet date theme is causing this issue.
