I would like to add an ad unit between archive posts. However, I have been unable to do so. Despite following several guides online.

Hello, this may take a while because is a custom request, can you please share ftp or cpanel so i can access the file manager and do some tests? Do you want to make the ad appear after an x number of posts?
Example 3 posts 1 ad, 3 posts 1 ad
