Is there an easy way on the blog page that I can have the image when clicked link to the post itself rather that pop a larger version of the image?

Hi, Only the gallery format post should open the images in popup and regular image posts should go to the post when clicking the image.
If you want to make changes to the masonry blog elements you can copy this file to your child theme in the same folder structure and edit it there: wp-content\themes\kleo\page-parts\post-content-masonry.php
