Buddypress notifications not working

The registered users do not get any notification when someone comments to their posts. Please advise.

Correct. They do not. They never have. Search the bp forums. There’s a plugin for that but not sure if its still being maintained.

Well, this is frustrating. Why is there then a notifications option on the profile and “live notifications” if they never worked? On the BuddyPress forums there are answers since 2 years ago, they recommend the plugin “Buddypress activity comment notifier”. I searched for that plugin and it was not updated since February 2014! What solution do you suggest for this?

Okay, but as I’ve said, the buddypress developers never wrote in screen notifications for activity comments. Only email notifications. That’s not Kleo’s fault.

The only thing that Kleo has done with notifications is added Live Notifications. What it does is checks the notification table in the db for any notifications for the user and shows the notifications in the menu. Since buddypress doesnt log comments in the notification table there’s no way for Kleo to notify you of it.

It makes sense, thank you for the detailed answer! Please have a look at my website, there might be a connection with my other question about the login page. I don’t get any notifications at all, also not by email.

Again, that’s not Kleo. If you’re not getting notifications, it could be a number of things but nothing Kleo related. Its all BP and WP and SMTP.

Hi again, so, I am in discussion with the Buddypress forum as well and they suggested to activate the TwentyFifteen theme and check there. With the TwentyFifteen theme activated, I get email notification but no in-site notifications. With Kleo activated, I don’t get any notifications at all (also not by email). Can you help me at least get the email notifications? Maybe I made some mistake that they don’t work at all when Kleo activated?

Let me see if they changed any notification code in BP 2.3. Kleo 2.4.3 isnt fully compatible with BP 2.3 since it just came out a few days ago.

I just tested two of my kleo 2.4.3 sites with BP 2.3.1 and I’m getting email notifications for activity comments without issue.

Ok I just tested again and now I get email notifications with Kleo too. So that means it’s for sure Buddypress problem not getting in-site notifications?

They have only ever had email notifications for comments. There have never been in site notifications for comments. I’ve said that from the beginning. LOL.

I know but it seems strange that they have a “notifications bell” that always shows 0 notifications! If not for comments than for what are the notifications?

What exactly does Buddypress log in the notification table in the database then? Only private messages and friend requests but no activity notifications like comments and likes? Because Kleo is advertised with a notification bell which people associate with notifications for basic things like comments and likes.

Can you recommend other plugins as an alternative to Buddypress that are compatible with Kleo and send notifications for all activity? I was reading about one called “Ultimate Member” https://ultimatemember.com/creating-alternative-buddypress/, would that work with Kleo?

Is there a way to add activity comments to the things buddypress will notify about? This seems like a serious lack in any social media site, that members don’t get notifications for responses to status updates. I have tried the activity comment notifier plugin, but as far as I can tell, it only shows notices in the admin toolbar, which makes it an unacceptable solution to me as I do not want my users accessing the backend at all.

Has anyone had any success in getting notifications for comments/replies and can suggest a solution that doesn’t involve notices on the admin bar?

I am looking for a solutions for this too. I want users to receive emails so they get the notifications when they are logged out.
