tried to import the .xml from the demo folder, i was able to select the file but after i click upload, nothing happened, it’s just a blank page.
I watched the setup video on Youtube the first thing, to import the demo data should be fairly easy as i’ve been through all the other steps just fine.same problem as this guy http://wordpress.org/support/topic/wordpress-importer-pluggin-doesnt-import
i’ve gone through many pages of google and wordpress.com but still can’t find a fix.
things i’ve tried:
disabling all plugins
disabling all plugins then enabling them
set php.ini max memory limit from 128M to 256M
set php.ini max execution time to 300 (5 minutes)
none of these worked. Please help. Thank you so much.

May 21, 2014 at 15:30 #18459sharmstrModeratorHad to ask. Anyhow, I had that problem all the time on godaddy servers and actually had to split the import file into smaller chunks (with a different theme). I recently moved over to a new host and the first import of Kleo data gave me a blank screen. I had failed to select “admin” for the ‘assign posts to’ section. When I tried to do it again, this time selecting ‘admin’, it worked fine and it was quick. So, not really sure if it was a temporary ‘server’ issue or and issue with not selecting ‘admin’.

May 22, 2014 at 02:01 #18499pa7ja9Participant@sharmstr thank you so much for the detailed reply, it helped me to look into all sorts of possibilities further.
first, it’s the steps for importing, copied from the .xml file (in the theme manual and youtube video it’s all the same)
<!– To import this information into a WordPress site follow these steps: –>
<!– 1. Log in to that site as an administrator. –>
<!– 2. Go to Tools: Import in the WordPress admin panel. –>
<!– 3. Install the “WordPress” importer from the list. –>
<!– 4. Activate & Run Importer. –>
<!– 5. Upload this file using the form provided on that page. –>
<!– 6. You will first be asked to map the authors in this export file to users –>
<!– on the site. For each author, you may choose to map to an –>
<!– existing user on the site or to create a new user. –>
<!– 7. WordPress will then import each of the posts, pages, comments, categories, etc. –>i was able to open the file dialogue and selected the .xml file (only 492kb), also the upload limit reads (Maximum size: 10 MB) next to the Choose File button.
then i clicked the Upload file and import button and it returned the blank page with just a title “Import WordPress” and nothing else (my screen shot from previous post). So i was at step 5 and stuck there, not able to proceed to step 6 where it asks to select a user i.e. admin to map the author like you described that you were able to do so.
when i googled this issue, most seemed to be server issues with shared hosting, e.g. upload limit, php memory limit and php max run time limit that’s why all the solutions i can find suggested breaking the file into small chunks (thus bypassing all the php limits).
while i’m on a VPS, and able to modulate php settings and tried all sorts of different php values, that did not make a difference. Not to mention i just moved & restored another php forum app to the same server last week with a 130MB mysql database.could it be the import plugin itself is broken or incompatible?
searching through the plugin comment page there’re many same issues but the author never responds.OMG i’m pulling my hair out!!! can’t believe such an easy task can be so frustrating. T_T#
oh and thank you again @sharmstr please help me if there’s more you can think of. And where the heck is 7th staff?!
May 23, 2014 at 20:56 #18663AbeKeymasterHi @pa7ja9
Have you tried to set WP_DEBUG to TRUE in wp-config.php file?
Also check server logs for errors and see if you can find any useful info. I don’t think it could be related to the theme but you can switch to the default WP theme and do the same import just for testingHi there!!!
