When I first started my site I did not know about the child theme, so I did not use it. But I have put in nearly a week of work and I saw that in order to fix a bug I needed to edit the child theme. So I finally figured out how to install/activate and when I did all of my work from the week was ruined. How do I get my changes on the parent them into the child theme.
Should I copy the css and function folders from the parent? Or just deactivate the child although I am worried about updates also deleting my work

Please help, I am a total noob so simplicity it best

Found the solution on the wordpress codex forums everything is a ok.

As long as there have been no updates to the css, template, or functions files installing the child theme after customizing the site on the parent theme just required you to disable/activate all plug ins and customize the theme options all over again.

Message me if you need any specific help

You shouldn’t have to do all of that. All that is required is copying you changes to the child theme.
