I’ve been learning about Gutenberg’s new editor from our hosting tech support team, and trained a little bit about it.

I installed the Gutenberg editor plugin to get acquainted with it, but I noticed that it does not play that well with the Kleo Theme. Thankfully, the classic editor button is still available for now, but with WordPress 5.0, I am worried that my clients with the Kleo theme (I have 3) will have some complications when Gutenberg will be the default editor, and the classic editor is no longer available.

Is SeventhQueen working on Kleo Theme compatibility  with Gutenberg, and working on providing us with documentation on how we can effectively continue to use your beautiful theme with Gutenberg’s editor?

Any guidance or advice on this would be helpful, so I can empower my clients to feel great about this coming huge leap in the editor and WordPress.

Thank you for all you do!

    Hi,

Thanks for contacting us about the Gutenberg Editor. We are indeed working on compatibility and we will release this before the new editor releases. It is still unclear at what point the new editor will be rolled into WordPress core and the versioning of WordPress and timing appears to have been adjusted.

When the editor does release you will have the option to disable it via a plugin and continue using the classic editor if you so wish. The impact it will have on WP Bakery (formerly Visual Composer) still remains unclear and as soon as we have more information we will of course let you, our customers, know immediately.

Updated documentation will follow for any theme specific functions or elements but it will be down to individual users to train themselves, staff or customers on how to use WordPress.

    Hope this helps,

    Kieran

    Thank you, Kieran.

I was told by the team at Pantheon.io Hosting who did a Webinar on Gutenberg, that the WordPress Core 5.0 would be released with Gutenberg, but there was no actual release date for 5.0 yet. Tentative around end of summer-ish.

Hopefully we will here better news and be given a better ETA Soon.

Thank you for everything you guys do!

    With Aloha,
    Mae

    Hi Mae,

That certainly is the party line at the moment, however, it was expected originally that 5.0 would release around April 2018 and there are still 300+ active issues for the next major release.

It’s worth being prepared for Gutenberg from your perspective and our own but I personally wouldn’t expect a release until mid June or early July.

You can see its progress here https://core.trac.wordpress.org/roadmap

    Thanks,

    Kieran
