ParticipantHi,
I want to create users from my existing contacts (in gmail). I have used “WordPress Users & WooCommerce Customers Import Export(BASIC)” plugin to import the user data. These data is there under Subscribers but not in Participants. Could you please suggest me any plugin or method to create website users from my contacts? This will help me to showcase my website with few real users. I want to make my website fully functional with users.
It would be much helpful if you can give me a solution. Please see the attachment.
Thank you.

ModeratorHi,
Thanks for contacting us about user roles, this isn’t an issue generated by the theme but through the way the users were created.
You can assign these users the role of participant by going to WP Admin > Tools > Forums > Tab: ‘Repair Forums’ and check the last checkbox titled ‘Remap existing users to default forum roles’ – then click the ‘Repair Items’ button. This process may take several minutes depending on your host and how many users you have. Make sure to make a full backup of your database before running this tool.
Thanks,
Kieran

ParticipantHi Kieran,
That did not work. I want your expert guidance this.
One more Query: I have 500+ contacts in my email (mostly friends). I want to make them as demo users by uploading their details: Name, Username, and Email. The password I will keep as blank or any random password.
I know this is not something related to the theme. But I really want to make my website successful with few real users (known to me). As of now I am the only person working on this in my free time. I need your support in these hacks.
Thank you.

ModeratorHi,
Please update this ticket, in a private reply, with admin credentials for your site so I can check the forum user role not being generated with that tool.
With regards to ‘One more query’, I am not sure what you’re asking, did you not already import all of your users from your email via the tool you described in your first post?
Kieran

ModeratorHi,
I logged into your site and checked WP Admin > Users and found that the forum role tool did indeed work, all 2,034 subscribers now also have the role of participant (see screenshot).
With regards to exporting and importing users, I would export your email contacts as a CSV and then use a plugin like this https://wordpress.org/plugins/import-users-from-csv-with-meta/ to import / create them in WordPress.
Thanks,
Kieran

ParticipantHi Kieran,
But it showing only 36 members under members. Please see the screenshot.

ModeratorHi,
That is because of the way they were imported, a user is not shown on the front-end via BuddyPress until they have successfully logged in. Usually demo content plugins take care of this when they create fake users, I am not sure if there is a method available to you to bulk login so many users.
You can check what I am saying is correct or not by installing the plugin User Switching by John Blackbourn in WP Admin > Plugins > Add New. Switch to a user that does not appear on the front-end via WP Admin > Users, reload the home page after switching accounts and then switch back to your admin account. You’ll now see the user is shown on the front-end and that the count has changed.
Thanks,
Kieran

ParticipantHi,
😀 that means 2033 times I have to “Switch to” to activate all the 2033 members I have uploaded? After switching to one user I need to log out and again log in to admin then again switch to another user, am i right? You know? I started collecting contact details of students from colleges to add in this website as members (I know this may not be allowed in EU or US). Before promoting the website I wanted to show some members on the website.
Let me know if any possible way is available to create users from external users data. I am keeping this thread as ‘private’ since this method may be considered as unethical in EU.
Thanks and regards,

ModeratorHi Krishnakumar,
As I stated above, I am unaware of a method to class all users as logged in. Obviously switching between that many users using this method is not viable – I offered this plugin so you could check what I was saying was correct.
I think there needs to be a date in the row last_activity within wp_usermeta table for each user to count a user as logged in. Your best bet is to open a support topic on the BuddyPress site and ask one of the developers if this is correct and how to assign, en-masse, the last_activity to users who do not currently have one set.
This topic is probably a good starting point https://buddypress.org/support/topic/rebooting-activity-stream/.

ParticipantHi Kieran,
The details in the thread “https://buddypress.org/support/topic/rebooting-activity-stream/.” is Greek to me. Let us keep aside the profiles I have imported. I have few queries including the existing query (I request you to discuss with others also)
Scenario 1: I am going to collect 1000s of name, contact no., email ids from different sources with permission to add them to my website.
1. How can we import them as live users in Kleo?
2. I want to know what are the columns I have to add in the .csv or .xlsx file (for importing)
3. Is there any plugin for this?(If this is not possible)
Scenario 2: I want to invite members using their email ids
1. Which is the best plugin for this?Thank you so much!

ModeratorHi,
As I said above, the best way to get contacts out of your email account and into WordPress / BuddyPress will be via a CSV export from your email client and CSV import via a WordPress plugin.
I made a suggestion above of https://wordpress.org/plugins/import-users-from-csv-with-meta/, but there are many plugins that will do this for you. Each will have a different format for the CSV file and you will need to read the documentation for the plugin you chose to understand how to use it.
Another solution may be http://www.wpallimport.com/add-ons/user-import/, this is a premium plugin but is renowned in the WordPress community as the best import plugin for all kinds of data.
With regards to the ‘live’ element of your question, you would need to set a last_activity within BuddyPress before the users would be considered live and appear on the front-end.

ParticipantHi Kieran,
I have changed my domain name to ‘eduguru.pro’. Previous domain extension ‘.CO’ was confusing with ‘.COM’. ‘.COM’ on sale for a huge amount that I can’t buy as of now. Admin credentials are same as before.
Coming back to the discussion: I am working on this. I have already collected 30,000 students data. Rather than creating them as users I will invite them to the website. Please don’t close the ticket until I am a success in this.
Thank you.
