I am in the process of creating a website for home-schoolers to find like-minded friends. For this site no home-school child will register on the site. The moms will create an account for themselves and each mom can have several kids created to her profile. Every kid has their own interests and personality type and other moms need to be able to search for other mom’s children based on location, age, gender and interest.
Because of this the sweetdate theme search function does not fit perfectly for the job:
The BP Profile Search function of the sweetdate theme search the location, City, Language and Child 1’s age and gender. If for example Mom 1 has child 1 and is a boy that is 6, and mom 2 has child 2 that is a boy that is 6, the search will not pick it up, because only child 1’s table is included in the search.
The search need to be extended to all the child tables and not just the first child table.
Do you have any suggestion how I should go about with this customization? I am concerned if I do customization it will be overridden with any theme updates.
Thanks!

Regarding theme updates you can keep it update proof if you do your modifications in a child theme.
Please consider contacting and hiring a developer to build such functionality.
Cheers
