Field option part 2

I have a blank field option in one of my fields. The blank shows up on homepage search but not in horizontal profile search. The blank is the field i can’t delete. ( see previous post) I had started to use it as a default value with “Please select” written in it which i saw as a screenshot which somebody else was doing. Why would the 2 searches be different?
My searches don’t work at all….very frustrating and i have looked all day at support vids, docs and forum…please help soonest
