group avatar white screen after croping avatar

Hi I have the following problem:

When I create a group and I upload an Avatar as group picture, I can upload the picture and it shows me the cropping tool. So far so good. But when i select the Avatar crop area and than click CROP I get
a white screen.
Actually it is not a white screen of death it is all white and shows to brackets ( like from shortcode but in other directions) please see attached screen shot. Attention it is all white look at the left top corner.
after getting this screen i can’t do anything. One thing: when I reload my homepage and go back to the group section I am to see the created group incl. the grouped avatar picture.

any idea ? thanks for reading and helping

Could you provide me a link to your site and wp admin credentials so i can test and see what happens there ?
