how to safely edit theme to incorporate co-authors

I have this plug in and it works great, but the co-author is not showing on the sidebar meta author info. there are instructions on this webpage, but I hesitate to break anything. could you please replay with instructions on exactly how to incorporate this safely into my Kleo-child theme?
