is it possible to disable comments on grouppages and profile pages

I would like to use this theme only as a blog type for students. Is it possible to disable the function comments, so students cannot react/comment on other posts on their profile page?

Hi Laura,

Thank you for the reply but that doesn’t seem to do the trick. It only disables the comments on pages, posts & portfolio.
In this case I want to disable commments on status updates on the profile pages.

Is it possible?
Or is there a way to hide the “reply” button?
