I’m trying to change the name of the Members Directory for Buddypress and some of the buttons. I’ve tried multiple approaches from multiple forums using .po and .mo files and have not been able to get anything to work. Can you please tell me how to change these things?

The strings can be changed by using loco translate plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/loco-translate/
You will need to go to the plugin dashboard and in Kleo section add new language, choose your language, and if you are asked where you want to save the language files choose global language directory ( wp-content/languages/ ) then press SYNC button then search for that string and translate it and press save.
If the strings that are you looking for are not found in kleo try to search it on buddypress.

I can change files through my file manager in Cpanel without a problem but have not been successful with that approach either. I am trying to modify the title of the members directory and the “add friend” button and some other “friend” related texts, and nothing seems to be working.
