Location and proximity

Hi –

If a user on the home page searches by location (assuming city) how does the system know which cities are nearby? For example – if someone searches ‘Miami’, if no other user enters ‘Miami’ as their location, would the system know to display users who have their location set to ‘Aventura’ (which is a city located 5 miles away from Miami)?

I would greatly appreciate any help/input.

Hello, right now, it only searches for the exact City, as it were just words. It searches for the same.
Maybe with a plugin, that has a google maps api, with an option for range search… like geo my wp
