Hi there,
Something weird is going on with my front end login – can’t find anything similar in the forum though.
i have latest w/p root install + buddypress + s2member as the main plugins, and using the default Kleo theme at present for testing.
If i login via the popup that shows after clicking the login menu link (for both the Kleo login and the Buddypress login menu links in Appearance > menus) it doesn’t come up with the usual “Login successful – redirecting”, as it does on this site here, and then automatically redirecting to our welcome page (as per our s2member setup).
Instead, after log in it stays as a popup and shows the text “You are already logged in. Please refresh page”. Then you have to either click the ‘refresh’ link or click the browser refresh button – and only then are you redirected as you should be. I’ve attached a screenshot FYI – Any suggestions?
This happens for both subscriber and admin login in the front end of the site – in firefox and chrome.
It’s not a big deal for me, but it will be confusing initially for new members and will become a real nuisance for members long-term.
(I’ll post a private reply after this with the url and a temporary login for you to test it with.)
Many thanks.

March 16, 2015 at 04:57 #502555high-photohubParticipantHi Laura,
completely forgot that they could be the root cause!
I’ve checked them all and it’s definitely related to the s2member pro plugin. Could you suggest any work-around for this? as i originally looked at the paid membership pro plugin that your theme suggested, but found it wasn’t nearly as advanced or as well supported as the s2member framework – particularly in relationship to integration with PayPal, as the PMP plugin authors wrote that they wouldn’t support this as it was too hard!
I’ll contact the s2m support too, but they may not be familiar with your theme.
Thanks,
Jenny

March 19, 2015 at 22:33 #508705high-photohubParticipantHi Laura,
Good idea – I’ve just deactivated ALL plugins except for the s2member framework and it still has the same problem. So it looks like a direct conflict with the theme. I’ve posted to the s2m support site but not heard anything back from them yet – strange, as they’re usually really good at answering support questions.
I’ll keep you updated as soon as I hear anything, but if you have any insights into it I’d really appreciate it as we’re due to go live in less than 2 weeks now.
Many thanks 🙂
March 23, 2015 at 06:51 #511435high-photohubParticipantHi again,
Well I’ve heard back from the s2member pro plugin and no real solution I’m afraid. They said:
“Unfortunately it sounds like you’re using a WordPress theme that is not compatible with s2Member. The vast majority of WordPress themes work just fine with s2Member – we have tens of thousands of users who are using s2Member on their site without the problem you described. But if a theme developer customizes the login process the way the Kleo theme does, then s2Member will not function properly. That’s not to say the Kleo theme cannot be made to work with s2Member…”
When I first asked about the Kleo theme I did ask about using s2m with it, as I had already set it up, and I was told that it would probably be OK as it was Ok with the PMP. However I’ve now searched through this forum and found quite a few SeventhQueen customers who are using/want to use the s2m plugin but are having problems with it being in conflict with your themes, particularly with the login not working properly.
I did look at, and try, the PMP plugin but found that although it had a very easy/basic admin setup, it didn’t offer the range of options (or admin control – or detailed docs) compared to s2member framework. S2m appears well crafted and integrates well with other complex plugins like Bullet Proof Security, and although it’s a bit daunting to set up at first, it does support all payment pathways and gives heaps of functionality and flexibility. However when I researched the PMP plugin, although they enabled payment via PayPal they made it very clear that they would not support any integration problems with PayPal – as it was ‘too difficult’. Not a promising start, so after reviewing it I decided against it.
Perhaps you guys could take another look at this login issue to see if you can fix it for all of your customers?
Keeping my fingers crossed – many thanks.
March 25, 2015 at 01:13 #514185high-photohubParticipantHi Laura,
I passed some feedback from this support forum about this problem back to the s2m team, namely this from a previous thread:
‘…I have come to know that it is a known problem with s2 member pro plugin. It conflicts with ajax login and wordpress redirection. This plugin also overwrites wordpress default user roles.’
And s2m support have come back with the following info, which might be helpful for you to correct this problem:
Hi,
You said the theme developers said this about s2Member: “…This plugin also overwrites wordpress default user roles”.That’s not true. s2Member does not overwrite any default WordPress User Roles. We add new WordPress User Roles (s2Member Level 1 – 4), but we do not modify any existing ones.
We integrate with BuddyPress–we have tested this and it works, including logins and redirections to the Login Welcome Page.
The problem here is that the Kleo theme developers have created their own custom Login Form (the AJAX form that you showed in your original screenshots). That AJAX form is overriding the default WordPress login system, which is what s2Member integrates with. (BuddyPress integrates properly with the WordPress login system, which is why s2Member and BuddyPress play nice together.)
There’s really not anything s2Member can do here–we rely on standard WordPress development practices for integrating with the WordPress login system. Most WordPress themes (even those that provide their own login page) and even special “Login Form” plugins work just fine with s2Member, as long as they also follow standard procedures for integrating with the WordPress login system.
Regards,Please could you look int this urgently and let me know?
many thanks,
Jenny

Me too! I’m also running s2Member and get that text with Kleo (but didn’t before the theme install). So far it seems to only happen on the phone, not the computer.
March 30, 2015 at 14:47 #52215AbeKeymasterHave you updated to the latest KLEO theme? We have done some changes to the login mechanism but we only use WordPress default login functionality and nothing to do the login with other methods…

@ SeventhQueen we do our best to have super happy customers. Thanks for being our customer.March 31, 2015 at 00:24 #523355high-photohubParticipantHi Abe,
Yes, I have the latest version – and am signed up for auto updates too.
It’s definitely something to do with the Kleo popup login box (which I love!) as if I use the s2m login widget in a sidebar OR the BP login widget they both login as expected.
But with the menu links for both the BP login and the Kleo login – where the popup appears, the auto redirect fails. The ONLY one it works for is if you sign in using the popup login as an admin. Otherwise it doesn’t. Not sure if you’ve tested it as a user, rather than an admin?
Thanks and looking forward to any solutions,
Jenny
PS: my only other thought as a temporary ‘work around’ for this, is if I can somehow make a menu link using a short code for the BP login widget or the php code for the s2m login widget ( <?php echo s2member_pro_login_widget(); ?> ). Could this be done? If so, then the main login/logout menu links might work as per the BP and s2m widgets… Just a thought!
March 31, 2015 at 00:41 #52339FeirbrandParticipantI am having the same issue and I wanted to add some information that might be of assistance. I watched S2 video http://www.s2member.com/videos/73410BDAD0526234/ “Login Welcome Page Conflicts” at 4:08 they show there should be a hidden redirect_to value. I followed the method they described and I do not have a redirect showing in the login box. I have it setup correctly in the S2 plugin options, however it is not adhering due to a possible conflict with the theme.
As a side note. S2 worked on my previous theme Divi as I have it setup. When I switched to Kleo recently it has not redirected to the user profile. Hopefully this helps Abe & 5high-photohub.

You must be logged in to view attached files.April 1, 2015 at 08:44 #52671empoweredanimalsParticipantI have a similar conflict. I am running s2member and kleo and had the kleo redirect to current page after login (same as the s2member login). Well, I had the ‘you are already logged in’ problem but the worst part was that it would intermittently give my members access to the WP *dashboard*. This never happened with the old (albeit less attractive) theme.
So I turned off the Kleo redirect and am using only buddypress and s2member logins. So far no more back door access. Fingers crossed, though, as it was intermittent.
April 1, 2015 at 09:22 #526725high-photohubParticipantYes, it’s a bit of a problem @empoweredanim but i think the wp-admin access is something seperate. I used the s2m restrict wp-admin settings plus the code below in my child theme functions.php
COPY CODEif ( ! current_user_can( 'manage_options' ) ) { show_admin_bar( false ); }
May be worth a try?
@abe I’m also talking to my hosting providers to see if there’s any conflict they can see at their end – will keep you updated. But it certainly seems that this is a theme/s2m issue as quite a few different people are experiencing the same thing.April 9, 2015 at 06:18 #537285high-photohubParticipantHi again,
Got the all clear from our hosting provider, so no issues there that might be affecting it.
Not sure if this has any impact but I just noticed that in Kleo theme settings > miscellaneous there’s a Login redirect option for Popup login box. Perhaps this is in conflict with the s2m login/redirect after login?
have also heard back from s2m and they’ve run a server test and enerything is as it should be. When time I will do a test with kleo and s2m only, but personally i think it will just confirm that there is a conflict with Kleo theme and s2member pro.
Cheers.

I have now completed testing s2Member Pro and Kleo theme using a clean install of WP.
1. First tested with s2m pro + Buddypress + Kleo theme (NO other plugins active).
This was to test for the problems with the login NOT auto redirecting when using the BP login pop up in the theme. Results:
Login using the BP menu login pop up – does NOT auto redirect, but says you have to refresh the page and when refreshed it goes to the page you were on originally (NOT the s2m login welcome page as expected)2. Then tested with s2m pro + Buddypress + default WP 2015 theme (NO other plugins active).
Results:
Login using the BP menu login link – logs straight in without having to ‘refresh’So there is a definite conflict with the Kleo theme for the popup login boxes and s2member (and possibly with it’s redirect to a Login Welcome page too?). This happened with both the s2member framework AND the s2member pro version.
Could this be looked into at some stage soon, as s2member is a popular and powerful (and by all accounts a well coded) plugin? Plus you have quite a few Kleo customers who already use it – and are experiencing the same problems.
Many thanks,
Jenny
April 13, 2015 at 20:12 #54240empoweredanimalsParticipantI just link to the regular wp-login now in the top menu. It’s not as fancy, but at least there are no page refresh issues.
April 14, 2015 at 07:45 #543595high-photohubParticipantThanks for that idea. I presume you just mean by adding a custom link to wp-login.php? It will certainly get around it, but as you say, not pretty! But it works for our home page as we can’t add in a login widget anywhere there.
Just for your info, we’ve used the s2m login widget (or the BP login widget works OK too) in a new ‘sidebar’ and then included this in a ‘widgetised sidebar’ in our 2 other public pages. These work perfectly, as they’re s2m logins.
Cheers.
April 14, 2015 at 07:49 #54360empoweredanimalsParticipantYes, that’s what I did, just a link.
I use the S2member login for people who are not logged in (because it recommends registration) and the BuddyPress one for our paid users (after they log in).
April 16, 2015 at 17:46 #54834FeirbrandParticipantThanks for the idea of using the link to the Login page on my menu for a current workaround. Trying to use the Kleo or Buddypress login was not working. It was causing alot of frustration with my clients when they tried to login on their cell phones via 404 page errors. Hopefully they will fix this soon as it does slow down the process via the redirect to another page.

When you log in did it give you the login box with a refresh on the bottom? This is what myself and others (I think) are getting. on mobile its sometimes gives 404 errors. Once the client hits refresh it goes to the homepage instead of their profile.

May 7, 2015 at 23:11 #57816FeirbrandParticipantAfter your suggestion of caching issues. I tried several variations and here is what I found.
Before each Test I cleared personal caches, Cloudflare and W3 (if on).
Test 1 (W3 off)
Chrome – No
Firefox – No
IE – No
Cell – No
Tablet (New) – YES
Client A – No
Client B -NoTest 2 (W3 on)
Chrome – no
Firefox – No
IE – No
Cell – No
Tablet – No
Client A – No
Client B -NoAt this point I checked my .htaccess to make sure that the lines W3 added were not being placed over top. After that I ran a 3rd test with W3 off but this time not even my tablet would redirect. Im not sure if that helps anything. I will look more into W3 and redirect issues to see if I find anything. I wonder if the other 2 use a cache plugin or CDN.
May 8, 2015 at 01:04 #578495high-photohubParticipantHi again,
No we don’t use W3 as I found it really hard to set up with BPS on a previous site (my inabilities, not the fault of BPS!).
However we do use the recommended Speed Boost code in the .htaccess file, which is meant to be really effective. Here’s the link to the article: http://forum.ait-pro.com/forums/topic/htaccess-caching-code-speed-boost-cache-code/.
BUT when I tested it all fully on a clean install (see above on April 11th post) it was clearly due to a conflict between the Kleo theme and the s2member plugin, as BPS was not installed here, so no caching involved.
Cheers.
May 11, 2015 at 14:04 #58333AbeKeymasterMake sure the latest theme version is used since some improvements were added with time

@ SeventhQueen we do our best to have super happy customers. Thanks for being our customer.May 19, 2015 at 01:02 #59314FeirbrandParticipantI have spent all week working on this. I tried settings in Cloudflare, htaccess, W3 and even server side cache options. I have been on with Siteground and Cloudflare in confference calls and nothing was working. I decided to do some off site tests to rule out those areas. I always everything backed up and updated.
I installed WordPress on 2 home computers using Wamp. Both were clean installs. I used only the default WordPress themes and Kleo. I was able to duplicate the same results on both.
Test 1
I used themes 2013,2014,2015
Plug-ins
Bbpress
Buddy Press
S2I am able to get the login to redirect to the users Buddypress profile or activity feed.
Test 2
Theme I used was Kleo
Plug-ins
Bbpress
Buddy Press
S2I could not get the redirect to work and the refresh on login box appeared. Once I hit refresh it stayed on current page I was at when I selected login.
I tried test 1 again, but it would not work until I went back to S2 and hit save under the General Options section. Once I did that the redirect worked again.
Test 3
I used themes 2013,2014,2015
Plug-ins
Bbpress
Buddy Press
S2
+
The ones required by Kleo – Buddypress Cover Photo, K Elements, Rev Slider, Rtmedia, Taxonomy Metadata, Woocommerce, WPBakery Visual & YithI was unable to get the redirect to work despite everything I tried.
I redid test 1 again and was able to redirect to Buddypress profile.
I have tried Buddypress login menu, Kleo Login menu and I even created a login page menu link, but none made a difference in the tests. I will work on the separate plugin tommorrow to see if I cannot narrow it down to the culprit in Test 3.
May 27, 2015 at 12:35 #60278akalParticipantHi,
same issue here, s2m + kleo (up to date) but only for a s2Member Level 1 – 4 session. If I log with a WP admin session, the redirection works fine.

Well, I was really looking forward to the Kleo or BP popup login box to start working properly with the new Kleo update – but it was not to be!
I have updated everything and the Kleo popup login does redirect to the set page but ONLY for admins. It still has the same problem as I originally posted here (on March 14th) for USERS logging in with it – namely it doesn’t auto redirect but says your already logged in and you need to refresh the page.
If you want to look at it again I can set up a test user account and a test login link for our site – just let me know. But it’s easy to reproduce as when i did all my tests on a clean install it only occurred with the Kleo theme active and the s2member pro. plugin.
Look forward to your thoughts on this.
June 16, 2015 at 19:21 #63223AbeKeymasteryes give me a link. That only happens with S2 member plugin? because the redirect should work.
