Forgive me i’m new to using buddy press. Can someone explain why whenever log in/out using the facebook app in this theme it logs me in/out of WP-admin too same with just standard login.
Login is done at the session level for the entire site. There is no login for the front end and login for the backend. Also, that’s not a buddypress thing, that’s a wordpress thing.

ok thanks, so how do i test amend like things how menus and pages look when i’m logged out. Do i have to keep logging out and back in? Sorry all very new to me.
Yep. Or, just use a different browser… ie Chrome for logged in, Firefox for logged out.

Also, I think there is some plugins that allow you to switch users easily so you can test what non-admins see as well.

ok thanks, thats very helpful, next question the pic of the page on ‘home default’ is that one of the page templates i can set as my landing page? Or ideally i’d like the ‘home simple’ page with the right sidebar with the facbook login and lastest posts section. how can i do that?
Set your home page: WP admin > Settings > Reading.
You should read the documentation on Word Press, Buddypress, Kleo and anything else you plan to use.
