Making the display name unique

I want to make the display name unique, is there a way to do this?
I’ve seen on other forums that it’s the same concept as username:
1. Query the database for a list of display names
2. Throw an error if the desired name already exists

Can anyone help me out with this?

You need to search either bbpress (if only using forum) or buddypress sites for a solution. Kleo doesnt touch any of that. I believe I’ve seen a plugin before.
