Move activity icon on profile pages

Currently, the activity icon is the first you see when you enter a profile. I would like that to be the “Profile” area instead. Can you tell me how to change that?

I added the code to bp-custom.php under wp-content/plugins/. Is that the right place to save changes like this, or will it disappear next time I update the theme?
