Hi,
I need to understand how the translation for the profile fields works.
For custom fields, the text cannot be translated, it has to be defined from the very beginning in the language of the site together with its value, right? Please confirm.
For predefined fields from the theme like Age, City, Country, I am a, I thought that once translated with Loco I will be able to see the translation correctly. However I see some mismatch, in some places it comes translated (like search) in some others not (like profile). What is strange is that within Profile I see a mix, on top the fields seem to be translated while in the body not really – see attached.
Of course I can translate everything in profile fields definition, but if this is the case I remarked having other dependencies – like if I want to customize and play with the profile fields under Member Name at Members Directory, I need to use the translated strings. In addition, there might be some other side effects that I cannot anticipate right now. For example, if a user customize its privacy settings and choose to show some of this profile fields (like age) only with his friends for example, I have the feeling that in case of other language than English this will not work properly. And with the new GDPR this is something that can have an important impact, it is important to understand e2e how things work or are connected.
Can you explain, what are the profile fields that I can let them in English under profile fields and will be translated with Loco across the theme (meaning all places where used)?
Thanks.

yes right, this is what I meant with “has to be defined from the very beginning in the language of the site together with its value”. To me this is not a translation as these fields will be setup in one language only.
What about the predefined fields from the theme like Age, City, Country, I am a ? Can you please provide feedback on my other queries?
Thanks.

June 20, 2018 at 17:30 #201353lusienParticipantHi Laura,
Again, you did not understand my question. I was not asking where those predefined fields are but how to translate them? If you mean that the translation has to occur at users – profile fields, and for search form at users – profile search than I have to you following question:
What about the text that is available for translation in Loco. I see all predefined fields labels being available in loco so I am not sure how loco translation impacts the UI for predefined fields like Age, City, Country, I am a. They are tranlated in Loco but these translation is not visible everywhere.
Please check as well the image I attached initially and try to answer based on the example I have. I need to know how to fix my problem (which again is highlighted in the image).
Thanks.
June 21, 2018 at 00:48 #201396LauraModeratorHello, what you see at Loco Translate is what is set directly at the theme, by default we have the option to import profile fields, so they are already set at the theme, those are the ones you see in loco translate, the imported fields that the demo uses.
Anything related to the theme is found at loco translate, while anything that is set by the user, added or modified, has to be translated at the source.
So for all profile fields, you need to change it at users -profile fields
For the fields and placeholders of the search form, at users -profile searchFor simple text and strings of other plugins at loco – plugins
The default fields are there because the theme imports them when you import the demo, then after that you need to change it where its imported, at users – profile fields ( where you can also add more )
