Please help- Registration Question

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a golf site with free and paid memberships. When someone clicks on the “paid membership” in check out it asks them for their information and CC information to set up a new account.

When someone signs up for a “free membership”, in checkout is says please sign in or register an account but does not give them the ability to register an account if they are a new user. How do I configure buddypress or PMP to get registration form for FREE memberships?

Can someone please help me figure this out?
