@Tenshi – Do you feel W3 Total Cache works well with BuddyPress? Do you mind if I ask you what settings you have enabled? I played around with it, but didn’t seem to notice a difference.

    I’m using and recommend:

    Autochimp (Mailchimp plugin)
BackUp WordPress (backs up the whole site on schedule or on demand)
BP Extended Friendship Request (this is one of my favorites, it allows users to send a personalized message with the friendship request and looks great with this theme)
BuddyPress Group-O-Matic (adds users directly to groups based on what they enter during registration, really cool way to get group activity going)
BuddyPress Security Check (sort of like a Captcha on registration but math-based e.g. What is 2+3? I like it because I can never read the Captcha word, this also looks great with the theme)
BuddyPress Usernames Only (shows username in member director instead of full name)
Buddypress Xprofile Custom Fields Type (i use this mainly for a birth date field on registration which I display as age on the user profile)
Events Manager (adds an Events tab to Groups)
Geo My WP (allows users to add their location and search members by location)
Nav Menu Roles (hide custom menu items based on user roles e.g. logged-in vs not logged-in)
Simple Share Buttons Adder (really nice social sharing buttons)
Ultimate Coming Soon Page (comping soon page that let’s the admin or designated users use the site while everyone else gets a coming home splash page)
Widget Logic (allows you to only show widgets on certain pages)
WP Better Emails (sends nicer looking, customizable emails from WordPress)
WP Smush.IT (makes all images on the site less bulky and load quicker)

I would really like to try a chat plugin (not sure which one yet), BuddyPress Group Calendar looks nice ($19), and a plug-in for affiliate marketing.

@adam, sure! And yes, it does work for me. The key is to check the boxes that says something about “don’t cache for logged in users” since it is a social site, it always needs to be live.

Here are my settings, just import it: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5867241/0.php

You have to play with Minify, Database and Object cache since it doesn’t work for all. I usually ignore Minify since it’s really hard to tweak. If I do enable it, only for CSS. You can also play with CloudFlare.

And thanks for your plugin recommendations. I’ll check em out!

    I also use:
BuddyPress Message Attachment – it allows file attachments for Bp messages.

I am thinking of getting this plugin for member reviews/ratings:
    http://spoonjab.com/bp-wp-profile-reviews/

But I heard it does not work with this theme (http://support.spoonjab.com/forum/bp-wp-profile-reviews/bp-wp-profile-reviews-and-sweetdate-theme/ ) ? Could someone please advise if it is any good?

Or is there any other plugin that allows users to write reviews and rank other users? Thanks a ton!!

Do you guys happen to know a plugin that allows users to give “rep” to other people? Then display it according to ranking?

Not sure if this is what you’re looking for, but these two are rated well it seems:

    I haven’t tried them.

@adam, does this work for the modal or only for the register page? because i thought the regular register page allready had this?

    #5226

i believe it only works for the regular register page, i’m not using the modal. it checks username availability right after they type it in. otherwise, the regular process is they have to fill in all of their information and then click the sign-up button to see if that username is available. just a matter of preferences i suppose.

I wanted to share this premium plugin:
    http://www.philopress.com/products/buddyblock/
It allows users to block members using a button under “Add Friend” and “Send Message” on their profile page and it integrates really well with this theme. It’s $19, but worth it in my opinion if you’d find that feature useful.

I also have been playing around with some premium plugins from http://www.wpmudev.org and am not too impressed to be honest. For example, I tried adding their chat plugin to my groups pages and it was really slow and didn’t look very well made.

Hi – I wanted to recommend another (premium) plugin that works great with this theme:
    http://buddydev.com/buddypress/buddypress-recent-profile-visitors-plugin/

It shows who has recently visited your profile. It displays their profile picture which is linked to their profile if you click on it.

All of buddydev.com’s plugin’s I’ve tried have been great.

Hi, How can we have a plugin like this:

    http://buddydev.com/buddypress/buddypress-recent-profile-visitors-plugin/

    Only work for paid members?

In my opinion YD Profile Visitor Tracker is way better than BP Recent Profile Visitors.

This plugin is old, but works perfectly with Sweetdate. It’s also free. Give it a try!

I get a fatal error when I try YD Profile Visitor Tracker:

Hi, You should inspect plugin code and add some conditionals to check for membership with this function
    pmpro_hasMembershipLevel(array(1,2))

@adam – does the buddyblock plugin let the member know that they have been blocked or are they just invisible (similar to Facebook)? Have been thinking about purchasing your plugin, I did try a free alternative however it informed the person that they had been blocked, which is not something I want.

    Thanks 😉

it does NOT inform you that you’ve been blocked 🙂 they are just invisible to that member.

    Hello everyone,

Two great plugins that have stopped bots from signing up on my website are:

    http://www.pixeljar.net/2012/09/19/eliminate-buddypress-spam-registrations/
    http://bungeshea.com/plugins/bp-security-check/

Those two plugins, with email verification, have worked wonders. I havent seen one bot sign up for almost 3 weeks now 🙂

    Hi Adam,

Any ideas on how I can get the Recent Profile Visitors (http://buddydev.com/buddypress/buddypress-recent-profile-visitors-plugin/) plugin to show on another page other than the profile page?

I would love to have this on my home page so that my users can see who has viewed them, like most dating sites have on theirs today 🙂

    Thanks,
    Ryan

I have had a developer make a couple of custom plugins (more on the way) that may appeal to those building a dating site.

    1. A plugin that tracks and displays on a users profile their reply rate to messages as a %. So just above their avatar a line will state ‘This user replies to xx% of messages’

This kind of feature is popular on dating sites as it allows people to see how active another member is in replying to messages. It can be tweaked to base the percentage of how many % of users get a reply from that member or how many individual messages that user replies to.

    2. A plugin that extends the profile visibility manager plugin from buddydev to allow a user to hide their profiles from a certain user type.

Again popular for dating sites as generally males don’t want other males to be able to see their profile and females don’t want females to see their profiles. (of course can be extended to work with bi, gay, lesbian etc sites to allow users to ensure that only the user type they are interested in e.g. females seeking males, can see their profile.) When users have too much visibility and interaction available with a user type they are not interested in it can hurt their experience on your site (like a male seeing males in their recent profile visitors) so it is a worthwhile plugin for any dating site.

I’ve got more custom plugins in the pipeline, i am using a talented php developer from india who i chose after heavy scrutiny and filtering. I run a digital marketing agency so i know how to spot good, genuine hard workers so if anybody is thinking they need a custom plugin for their site maybe i can help you get it done. He charges only about $25-$40 depending on the complexity of the plugin.
