Hi,
I’m having some issues with the privacy settings within Buddypress. The default privacy settings don’t seem to be working. When I set a user’s profile to Private in the Settings > Privacy area (see http://i40.tinypic.com/2d005xe.png) the profile is still visible to everyone, whether logged in or not.
I am also finding that the privacy settings in Users > Profile Fields are not working either.
I’m not using any plugins so there doesn’t seem to be any conflict, I’ve also tried removing my child theme changes, which doesn’t fix this issue either.
Can you please have a look into this for me?
Thanks
January 4, 2014 at 21:50 #9107AbeKeymasterHi, Those settings from Settings > Privacy are not for making you profile private or not. Those come from rtMedia plugin and sets your default visibility for media.
Other setting in Users > Profile Fields are related to profile fields visibility

I’ve found that the privacy settings for profile fields work perfectly when set to “Enforce the default visibility for all members”. However, they don’t work when set to “Let members change this fields visibility”. When I set them to this, all fields remain visible to everyone, logged it or not, even if the user opts to hide any profile fields from everyone except friends.
Is there a reason as to why this setting wouldn’t work?
Thanks

If I set it to allow users to change the field visibility, when they do change the visibility, the field still remains visible to everyone.
So I have had to enforce default visibility and not let members change these fields… until I can fix this… hope that helps.
January 10, 2014 at 11:15 #9491AbeKeymasterI don’t know how you are doing the tests. For example we logged in as user1, changed City visibility to Nobody. Logged in as user2, went to user1 profile -> City isn’t visible

I want the advise…
In Profile fields I selected “Let members change this field’s visibility”. I tried to create an account on my site. I filled the specific field and there is the phrase below “This field can be seen by:” There is 4 options for person: everyone, only me, all members, only friends. When I choose anything and press “Close” button below these options…there is nothing changing. For example…
I selected “Default visibility”: “Everyone”, and selected “Let members change this field’s visibility”. But when I tried to create profile and tried to select other options like “only me”, “all members” or “only friends” – the result was the same…there was option “Everyone”. How to fix that persons could change the options by them?
When I selected “Enforce the default visibility for all members” – everything was ok and persons couldn’t select different from my selection.July 1, 2014 at 17:23 #21423AbeKeymasterTry with the new update coming in about 10 hours and see if it good with that

I made a lot of job and don’t want to lose everything. How can I save all my changes that when I return to Sweet Date all will be the same if all changes will be lost changing the themes?
July 3, 2014 at 23:32 #21687AbeKeymasterNo you won’t lose settings just for switching themes

That means that a profile information is shown to people who you would like to see your info, but there is a bug or problem with the table that shown when you register. When a user changing visibility for example from “Everyone” to “All members” and when pressing “Close” button at the bottom of this table – visibility is shown “Everyone”. But in created profile that info is visible only to “All members”. So the result is correct, but I want that user filling registration form and changing visibility could identify that his/her choise is shown at the same time when filling the registration form.
