reverting back from paid site to free site

Hi we have our site all setup and running fine but we want to run a period where the whole site is free to use. but in a month or two we want to revert it back to the packages we have right now.
Is there an easy way to completely disable the pmpro membership plugin so new users bypass the membership plugin.
but we want to keep all the packages there for reuse later.
Sorry if this is a silly question But I couldnt find anywhere to switch this off, or do I just deactiveate the membership plugin? will the settings be saved when reactivated?

You can deactivate the membership plugin. The plugins settings will remain when you will activate it again.
