    Hi Everyone,

For the last two days my site has been bombarded with spam from mail.ru and nokiamail.com Does anyone here know how we can eradicate these pests, I’m only using Akismet at the moment does anyone have any good suggestion.

    Thanks

    LG

I have been getting them from outlook.ru or something like that. I used code provided by seventhqueen to avoid the visible consequences of spam on the front end, for example, a spam on the registration form will cause a spam profile to be created. The code is used to mean that a registered user will only have a profile once they have become a ‘member’.

    Code here https://archived.seventhqueen.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/hide-non-paying-members.txt

    Thanks
    Kris

    Hi ututorco,

I’ve added the code but I can’t see my members now, is that because their only registered subscribers, and if so how do I make them Members.

    ThanX in advance

There are many plugins for dealing with spam, some I will list below:

    WangGuard – http://wordpress.org/plugins/wangguard/

    Askimet – https://wordpress.org/plugins/akismet/

Those two alone kill most spam. But there are some others that might be worth investigating…

    Stop spammer registrations: http://wordpress.org/plugins/stop-spammer-registrations-plugin/

    Spam master: http://wordpress.org/plugins/spam-master/

Let us know how you get on.

Sorry for late reply my email is full…

to add them as members you will need to create a membership level and assign them to this. Create member levels in memberships>levels. You can add a free membership or paid but essentially it adds as a deterrent for spam. To assign members manually you can do this with admin account. Go to users>paid user …this is a dropdown menu

since adding the code no spam accounts have been created on my site.

I’ve just this minute found this which may also be useful (free for personal use, but monthly fee for bigger sites – pricing under their Support menu); http://nomorecaptchas.com/

I’ve not tried it yet so no idea how reliable it is (for example, what happens if their site is offline – does it stop activity on my site?).

Hi Ututorco, I’m missing this members>level location and I don’t have users>paid user, do I need to activate or enable this somewhere. I have the drop-downs but there’s no paid user?

    ThanX
