Hi i did translate the .po and .mo files with Poedit and uploaded it to /wp-content/themes/sweetdate/languages but nothing changed? Language is still Eng…
What I am doing wrong?
June 27, 2013 at 12:01 #76SQadminKeymasterHi,
To translate the theme in your language, firstly you need to
download and install wordpress in your language here: http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_in_Your_Languageor if you want to update your existing install:
1. Search and save WP language files you need at the link mentioned above.
2. Login to your FTP server where WordPress is installed.
3. Navigate to /wp-content and create a new folder named /languages.
4. Upload your language files (ie: de_DE.po, de_DE.mo) to the /languages directory.
5. Navigate to the root directory and edit wp-config.php.
6. Replace define(‘WPLANG’, ‘en_US’); with define(‘WPLANG’, ‘de_DE’); and save changes. For theme string translation please use POEDIT or codestyling-localization plugin
If you use poedit, put your newly created files in wp-content/sweetdate/languages.
If you use codestyling-localization plugin you don’t have to copy any files, everything is done trough admin panel.Hi there!!! Help others from the community and mark any reply as solution if it solved your question. Mark as a solutionJune 27, 2013 at 12:13 #78sasupoParticipantHi,

There a way one can edit some around this?
ThanksJanuary 6, 2014 at 02:34 #9173AbeKeymasterHi, You do not have to edit .po file. You have multiple options to translate wordpress themese:
– using Poedit software by translating the .po file and will result a .mo file that goes to sweetdate/languages/ folde– simpler way with Codestyling Localization plugin. this will generate the .mo file for you by clicking the button after you translate all strings
Cheers

by the way I am trying to edit some word in the original English.
especially in the registration file. I would like to edit “Registering for this site is easy, just fill in the fields below and we’ll get a new account set up for you in no time.” to “Register Now” also change add friend to add buddy. Is this achievable via the language file?January 6, 2014 at 12:22 #9219kuitsParticipantYeah… this theme language file dont replace all strings…. if i translate it, then it replace only some strings, but if i translate buddypress language file too, then its better… BUT still… i get new problems. Some info is gone now
January 7, 2014 at 00:05 #9261AbeKeymasterHi,
– “Registering for this site is easy, just fill in the fields below and we’ll get a new account set up for you in no time.” is found in Buddypress plugin. Just go to Buddypress plugin from Codestyling localization, add you language, rescan files, search for the string, translate and click to generate the .mo file.
– “Add friend” also belongs to BuddypressHi there!!! Help others from the community and mark any reply as solution if it solved your question. Mark as a solution---

Let us know what strings you can’t find

I just want to edit the current language files and replace those words with my words. e.g where I have ”Registering for this site is easy, just fill in the fields below and we’ll get a new account set up for you in no time.” to ”Register now” and ”Add friend” to ”Add Buddy”.
Not translating to another language per-say. Just the default en_US language files. Would appreciate any assistance.
January 9, 2014 at 23:51 #9460AbeKeymasterHi, before I submitted my answer I just did that so there is no way it doesn’t work.
Steps:
– go to Buddypress plugin from Codestyling localization
– add EN_US language if it doesn’t exist
– rescan files
– search for the strings and translate them
– click to generate the .mo file.Hi there!!! Help others from the community and mark any reply as solution if it solved your question. Mark as a solution---

I Robert I did everything you mentioned on June 27, 2013 at 12:01 #76
however on a persons profile the about me remains in English.
On the activity page everything remains in English.and for some reason when I go into internet explorer the “add friends, private message, and public message” show up in Spanish. The same thing happens if I use the iphone.
Please take a look at it and advice me on what I should do.
here is the page.

February 7, 2014 at 13:55 #10670AbeKeymasterHi, Your fields are still in English, so you need to rename the English fields from Users – Profile fields.
For the buttons in Spanish.. isn’t that the way they should be?
Also you need to translate Buddypress plugin into your languageHi there!!! Help others from the community and mark any reply as solution if it solved your question. Mark as a solution---
