What is the golden rule regarding updating plugins?
I have limited WordPress experience with major themes such as KLEO thus the question.
Are we okay to update core KLEO plugins such as BuddyPress and Paid Memberships Pro?
…or do you not update plugins that are ‘newer’ than the latest theme version?
Many thanks,
JP.March 23, 2015 at 18:42 #51217AbeKeymasterHi, If a major BuddyPress, Woocommerce plugin version is released it is advised to look over the forums if it is compatible or start a thread is no one already did that. That applies also to WordPress major releases too.
We usually quickly release a theme version to make it compatible with latest releases.
Cheers

So, we ignore the current ‘minor updates’ from Paid Memberships Pro e.g. 1.7.15.2 to 1.8.1 and BuddyPress 2.5.4 to 2.5.6
…and wait for a theme update basically (or you guys to suggest the update if it is essential and wouldn’t harm the theme)?
Thanks again,
JP.March 25, 2015 at 18:28 #51512AbeKeymasterYes minor versions should be fine to update and wait for theme update to update major version plugins

It would be very helpful to have a central place to go to check if these core plugin updates are deemed safe or not.
1. BuddyPress
2. Paid Membership Pro
3. rtMediaI haven’t yet updated #2 & #3 in fear of not having confirmation of their compatibility with KLEO.
April 13, 2015 at 04:37 #54177empoweredanimalsParticipantSince this question was triggered by the recent Buddypress update, I hope this fits here.
I have some new behavior on my site since the Buddypress update. Now when people go to make groups, the image upload and group info section are missing – it just creates a private group immediately with the standard avatar. Is this happening to anybody else? I am not 100% certain it was the BP update as we also had some other plugins update and made some general site changes. But I figure the first thing to see is if anybody else is having this issue with Kleo.
April 19, 2015 at 22:52 #55151AbeKeymaster@empoweredanimals please deactivate extra plugins since I can’t replicate that

April 23, 2015 at 14:48 #55861wmuenyiParticipantYeah I wish I knew sooner not to update my version of WordPress, now I can’t activate VC without the site wordpress backend crashing.
April 23, 2015 at 14:51 #55862sharmstrModeratorAre you trying to activate VC 4.4.3?

I am trying to activate the latest version that is included on Themeforest, but it keep crashing so I don’t know what to do now to make the site work.April 23, 2015 at 20:01 #55932AbeKeymastertry to set WP_DEBUG to TRUE in wp-config.php and see what is the generated error

April 23, 2015 at 20:07 #55935AbeKeymasteryou should connect to your server where you have installed wordress by FTP or from Cpanel and you will see that file in the root of the install

I figured that’s the only reason why it keeps crashing. My wordpress version keeps getting auto updated by GoDaddy so now I’m using wordpress 4.2 and I don’t think VC is compatible and I can’t use this theme without it I’m pretty sure (or am I wrong?)
April 27, 2015 at 21:31 #56287sharmstrModeratorVC works fine. Make sure you install VC 4.4.3 located in the latest Kleo download from theme forest.

April 28, 2015 at 20:26 #56481wmuenyiParticipantI’ve tried the latest one and as soon as I activate it, the site crashes and it’s a fresh install of WordPress and only has the plugin and theme that I paid for with KLEO. Since buying it, I’ve not been able to use it. If anyone can help me, that’d be great, I can give them access to the website.
April 28, 2015 at 20:49 #56484sharmstrModeratorSounds like you dont have enough memory allocated. You need at least 128mb https://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Increasing_memory_allocated_to_PHP

April 29, 2015 at 05:20 #56565wmuenyiParticipantThat’s just a common phrase in America. Like saying “you guys” when talking to a group of girls. Not really meant to be an assumption of your sexuality.
April 30, 2015 at 00:01 #56701AbeKeymaster@sharmstr you should put something in the avatar related to your sexuality 🙂 kidding

Nice try. Anyhow, I was just wondering why so many people assume they are talking to a man when talking about code. No big deal. Moving on….
