I wanted to know is there a way we can determine what kind of user registers on our site. For example we have couples, single males and single females and wanted to know if we can break our groups down so it helps us target them for marketing purposes.

Any ideas would be much appricated.

Sorry I am a newbie at this all and learning as I go through the development process. How can I auto assign them into group and will everyone else be able to see that or is it just for admins?

Hello, by default everyone should see people on a group, or oyu can make group private.
To auto assign people for a group you need this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/auto-join-groups/
