User Roles : Events Manager

Hello,

I recently added events manager. People can now add their own events, but I was wondering how to restrict users that have an expired plan (level) but still have a profile from creating an event? (I know how to edit user capabilities, but I need to distinguish the users from one another)

Settings for user roles in the wordpress dashboard are set to: subscribers

Does this mean that everyone that register no matter their membership level is a subscriber? If so, is there any way to separate the current level roles and the expired level roles? This was I can change their user capabilities.
