What is “development mode”? Should I have it switched on or off?
August 29, 2018 at 13:25 #207839LauraModeratorHello, development mode deactivates minifications so you can check any issue, you should have it off unless you need to troubleshoot

August 30, 2018 at 04:51 #207933elsadesParticipantThanks for that Laura. I get it. But here’s the thing. Minification is not supposed to change the functioning of the program, right? But with my site the website appearance changes (for the worse) when I switch from Development Mode On to Development Mode Off. Let me explain ….
On my home page I have an image background set in the top section. With Development Mode ON, that background image extends all the way to the top of the screen, even appearing as background to the header, which is how I want the website to display the home page. (The normal header background is not visible).
However, with Development Mode OFF, the normal header background is visible and the top section background image is visible only below the header. That is not how I want my website to display the home page.
So, how do I get the Development Mode OFF display of my website home page to be the same as the Development Mode ON display i.e. with the top section background image extending into the (entire) header. Can anyone solve that conundrum?
August 30, 2018 at 13:47 #207970LauraModeratorHello, yes it does, minificaiton of js and css might create or change things, its up to you as every website its different, if you have issues with it, turn the minifications off at modules and install a plugin like super cache

August 31, 2018 at 05:32 #208037elsadesParticipantThanks Laura for your prompt reply and advice. I have a question regarding your advice. Where do I find “modules” to turn off minification?
August 31, 2018 at 18:36 #208114LauraModeratorHello, sorry i confused the theme with kleo, you would just need to turn off cache at your server (if it exists) at Settings – general, go to the bottom of the page to see if it says anything about cache, if not, check any minification plugin you may have and turn it off, anything like autoptimize or this kind of plugins, use super cache only, or wp fastest cache

September 1, 2018 at 10:39 #208142elsadesParticipantBy “turn off cache at your server” do you mean at cPanel? I can’t see anything about Settings General or Cache at cPanel. And in the WordPress control panel there are no caching or optimising plug-ins in the list of installed plug-ins.
September 3, 2018 at 01:31 #208285LauraModeratorHello, then you could put development mode on and install super cache, this should resolve your issue and keep your website fast

September 3, 2018 at 09:06 #208295elsadesParticipantThe problem seems to have magically resolved itself!! The home page now displays correctly with development mode OFF i.e. the same as with development mode ON.
So, should I install Super Cache and leave development mode switched OFF?
September 3, 2018 at 19:26 #208359LauraModeratorYou should install super cache anyways to speed your site 🙂
