whether Site-Wide Animations is helpful to site speed?

Hello,

I am not technical background, we would like any suggestion on the ways of speeding up of site,   Site-Wide Animations is great , but does it effect site speed?  I mean,  if it may cause site delay, I would like to switch it off.
