Hi
so we are testing the Youtube embedding. That works okay on the activity line (for “user added blog post”) and also in the blog page itself.
The problem seems to be with the blog results. Either in masonry view or other views. In those views it just shows the link to the youtube video, not the video preview.
If you do an actual youtube embed, then the video preview will show on the blog results area, but will not show on the activity line. The correct way to do it is apparently to use just the youtube link and let WP parse this, which works okay apart from the blog results view.
We have tried making the blog post an image, a video, a link etc. None of these will display the youtube preview in the blog results view.
Please can you let me know how to set it up so that it will show the youtube preview in the blog results view?
Many thanks

To embed the video as a preview you should do the following
1. Posts > Add New / Edit
2. Set Post Format on the right to video
3. Scroll down to Theme General Settings and select the Media tab
4. Paste your YouTube or Vimeo url into the Video oEmbed URL field
5. PublishIt will now automatically embed the video for you on post, archive, category and author pages whilst stripping out the URL from the preview.
Let me know if this works for you or if you need more assistance,
Thanks, and have a great day.
Kieran.

okay, that displays it properly on the blog results, and displays it nicely on the blog item page.
However that now does not show any preview of the youtube video on the activity line. If you just paste the youtube link into the blog item content area, it shows up on the blog item page and the activity line.
So we still have 2 out of 3, just a different 2.
Do you know any different ways that will display on all 3? If it displays in the activity line and on the blog item page, shouldn’t it just do the same in the blog results view?
July 1, 2017 at 19:15 #165841Kieran_SQModeratorHi,
The preview text below the post thumbnail / video thumbnail is a snippet of the main post content, if there is no content within it then there will be nothing to show, likewise, if it’s solely a link it will only show a URL in the preview. Any content posted there is also sanitized for the preview so no shortcodes or hyperlinks are generated in the preview.
For example if my post content is
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]I am text block. Click edit button to change this text. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
The preview will be something similar to this
I am text block. Click edit button to change this text. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.
You could add the link to the main post content too, however, when the post loads it will automatically embed the video for you (as is the default WordPress behavior). This will cause two identical videos to load on the page. To get around that issue you can check the option “Show media on post page” and set to “No” under Theme General Settings > Media tab on a post by post basis.
Kieran.
