there are also two different plugin versions

well it is not really solved… here is the problem… when you use bp member types and add a member type. all the search fields and profile matching fields disappear…..however if you click members with no member types the fields come back…..

So this is either an issue with the plugin or your script….
I have over 200 profile fields and each one I had to edit and click the no member type to get it to reappear.
