I had this same problem. Social Articles doesn’t display as an overflow icon. I had to reduce the number of profile functions/widgets and increase the profile page to full width, so that all the profile icons fit. Now it displays fine, I am just missing some added widgets, like Invite Anyone and BP Follow.
