I disabled the caching plugin ( wp cache) during testing, so if I make a change I can see it right away on the website front end. Fot me that was the main solution.

Yes – you need an account at Geonames.
Then go to http://www.geonames.org/manageaccount and make shure that the Free websservice is activated.
I enclosed an inmage.

And then – your points 1,2,3, – and at my webste it works. But after about 48 hours. Why? I do not know.

..and after 48 hours – suddenly, everything works here. Did not change anything, just made the fields the system needs and regustered ( and activated !) the geonames account

On the screenshot you can see what I mean, I use only the city field.

Will post settings screenshot later ( tomorrow) , I have to leave now.

My website is still under development – so don’t let the colours scare you 🙂

…and after 24 hours a miracle happened. It works ! Joy !

Still one question, it works when creating/editing a profile. But it doesn’t work in the widget, when searching. Is that right ? That it does not work in a widget ? Only in the profile fields ?

Also have done ( and corrected some problems) all of the steps above.
Still no result – what am I doing wrong…
