Back-end inaccessible

We noticed today that we are unable to log-in to the dashboard or even load “wp-admin”
We called our hosting and they had us do all the usual troubleshooting tests, disabling all the plugins, and then switching the theme via the database. When we switch the theme to “twentyseventeen”, suddenly the dashboard works again, but when we turn kleo back on, it will not load. We are now having to switch the theme off and back on via the database to make changes but we are unable to make any changes related to the theme or child theme because, when it is active, the dashboard does not load.
