Heads up: Auther Name still missing despite successive updates

I know this has been picked up before as an issue but a few months down the track I don’t see any solution to this: as @sharmstr correctly assessed in this topic:

“…Currently the avatar and the author name are bundled together. Can’t we separate those?…”

The ability to show author’s name (as chosen by the auther as name or login) is fundamental to any site that uses article contributions – each article should be easily spotted as written by a particular author rather than just dsplaying an Avatar and linking to the profile.

I just want to make sure that the subject has not been dropped and a fix is forthcoming. Any updates on this?
