removing the post form the home page

Hi there,

 

I would like to know how you remove the post hello world from the front page, I have removed it but it leaves a search box.’nothing to show sorry nothing matching you criteria’

From a newbie point of view and because I am trying to teach myself with out asking people,  would I cover it with the slider in someway?

I want my front page to look like yours were the search from comes up to meet the foot of the logo and I would have the recent members attached to the bottom of the search box.
