Not to hijack the conversation, but have you guys/gals tried Better WP Minify and WP Super Cache? I usually use W3 Total Cache on sites but I have a large and rather heavy news site on its own vps and W3 Total Cache slowed it down horribly. It just seemed like no matter what my settings, W3 Total Cache and the VPS just didn’t get along and the site was usually faster with it deactivated. After finally getting totally fed up with it I ended up switching it to WP Super Cache and Better WP Minify, now it’s very fast. A A at GTMetrix and looks great at webpagetest.org, it was much easier to configure too, no more spending days messing around with W3 Total Cache. I also use the free Cloudflare CDN.
My Kleo site is still in WPEngine staging which seems to be pretty fast without caching or minifying anything but I’m wondering what kind of issues I’m going to have with things getting cached that I don’t want cached once I make the site live.
November 19, 2014 at 09:52 in reply to: How Can I Change The BuddyPress Profile Navigation Menu Text? #35961DaveParticipantSorry to rejuvenate this old post but maybe it will help someone else. So I eventually ended up trying to create new .po .mo files from the .pot file using Poedit. The first couple times I tried it, Poedit gave me a couple errors, I ignored them and saved anyways and of course it didn’t work.
Then I tried again last week after a friend reported he successfully changed this field in BuddyPress using Poedit. But this time instead of trying to use the top menu to open the .pot file, I started Poedit fresh and used the 2nd button on the Welcome screen when you start Poedit, “Create New Translation.” Made some changes to see if it would work, uploaded them to my bp-languages folder and the new translation files work fine and I was able to change the text I wanted.
So it turned out to be a Poedit issue or maybe just my ignorance of the software, thanks everyone for all the help!

I’m about ready to just search through the buddypress plugin files and find it. 🙂

October 25, 2014 at 02:59 in reply to: How Can I Change The BuddyPress Profile Navigation Menu Text? #32979DaveParticipantLOL I came across that the other night too!
What ended up doing was downloading the language files that someone else had already changed on wpmudev.org. I can’t find the link but if anyone needs them I’ve uploaded them to this post.
I went through them a little more with the po editor.
Then I created the bp-languages directory and uploaded the files there and and it worked.
I skipped all the crap on that page! 🙂
I’ll keep looking for a solution and will share if I find it, thanks for all the help sharmstr!

I have the language files setup and and they changed it in most places, I’ve changed the slug, but these two items are escaping me.
“Friends” under the icon and “Friendships” in the submenu.

Charles, I’ll send you my email.

The issue here isn’t a problem for me, I’m ok with my quick css fix and kind of prefer it since I have the Activity Plus buttons below it. I think we should definitely stay in touch on WPEngine matters though so we know when problems are universal. If you want, let me know when you have your contact form up on your site and I’ll send you my email address.
October 22, 2014 at 17:05 in reply to: Attachment and Post Buttons for "What's new posts" on groups were hidden #32609DaveParticipant@chazzzzy I noticed it right around when I created this post, October 10th.
I’ve been a little concerned about doing this on WPEngine. I can just imagine the issues that are going to pop up once it’s moved to their super cached front end. Hopefully I’ll be wrong!
October 22, 2014 at 16:20 in reply to: Attachment and Post Buttons for "What's new posts" on groups were hidden #32601DaveParticipantI see the buttons when the page loads, there’s no unhide animation on mine which I’m ok with.
I’ve installed BuddyPress Activity Plus though which adds a few icons to add an image/link/video underneath the main box which might be making a difference.
I posted something in the groups last night and I noticed that the top of the post was partially hidden after posting it on my screen, but after refreshing it, everything looked fine.
I haven’t noticed anything odd with the comment buttons.
October 22, 2014 at 05:27 in reply to: Attachment and Post Buttons for "What's new posts" on groups were hidden #32540DaveParticipantThe site I’m working on is in wpengine’s staging area also, my groups latest activity is working with my css fix.
I haven’t updated the theme to the latest update yet though.
October 21, 2014 at 19:34 in reply to: How Can I Change The BuddyPress Profile Navigation Menu Text? #32478DaveParticipantHi Sharmstr, I’ve done all of that except trying the very old localisation plugin, and still the FRIENDS text below the icon remains. I’d prefer to do it without using a plugin even if I have to change a core BuddyPress file.
