I solved it by editing the Top Right Header Menu in the Menus section. The trick is you have to have at least one element in the menu, otherwise it resets to the default menu that includes all the Buddypress options. I solved it by just leaving the Logout item and nothing else for that menu.

neuromantParticipantI did this already but it seems to have not affected the background at all.. how do i replace an image for a child theme?
neuromantParticipantI figured out the map part.. but still have not figured out where to change the background image set as default for the login page (login-background.jpg) /- I wish to use my own background image instead of that colorful one included with the template.
