I have had a developer make a couple of custom plugins (more on the way) that may appeal to those building a dating site.

    1. A plugin that tracks and displays on a users profile their reply rate to messages as a %. So just above their avatar a line will state ‘This user replies to xx% of messages’

This kind of feature is popular on dating sites as it allows people to see how active another member is in replying to messages. It can be tweaked to base the percentage of how many % of users get a reply from that member or how many individual messages that user replies to.

    2. A plugin that extends the profile visibility manager plugin from buddydev to allow a user to hide their profiles from a certain user type.

Again popular for dating sites as generally males don’t want other males to be able to see their profile and females don’t want females to see their profiles. (of course can be extended to work with bi, gay, lesbian etc sites to allow users to ensure that only the user type they are interested in e.g. females seeking males, can see their profile.) When users have too much visibility and interaction available with a user type they are not interested in it can hurt their experience on your site (like a male seeing males in their recent profile visitors) so it is a worthwhile plugin for any dating site.

I’ve got more custom plugins in the pipeline, i am using a talented php developer from india who i chose after heavy scrutiny and filtering. I run a digital marketing agency so i know how to spot good, genuine hard workers so if anybody is thinking they need a custom plugin for their site maybe i can help you get it done. He charges only about $25-$40 depending on the complexity of the plugin.

To make it transparent you need to set the background on the form in rgba form(rgba(31, 168, 209, 0.3);) instead of hex

i don’t understand this. I like the css style for the register box the theme comes with, i just want to make the register box more transparent.

Oh i almost forgot, you must use the code found here

    http://buddydev.com/buddypress/making-wordpress-seo-plugin-compatible-with-buddypress-part-2/

to enable wordpress seo plugins to override the buddypress auto seo.

SEO is probably an area where i can help people on here more than any other – it is my full time job and i have ranked thousands of websites including dating / social media websites.

I am not familiar with the all in one SEO plugin (i always use and recommend Yoast) nor have i seo’d my own sweetdate site as it is still in development stage and i don’t implement SEO until last stage. But i’ll try to help.

Hughem – go to wordpress admin > appearance > customize > site title and tag

From here is where you should be able to update any wordpress homepage title. So in your case, without knowing much about your site or keywords, you might put the title as Cosplay Community and your tagline as worlds best costume social network – uberon.net

Resulting in a full titles of:
Cosplay Community | Worlds Best Costume Social Network – uberon.net

If this does not update your homepage title tag then it means whatever SEO plugin you use is overiding it. Go your SEO plugin settings in WP admin and look for either a homepage or titles option and there should be a ‘homepage title’ option somewhere form where you can implement your own.

Now if this all fails it may because you are using a static homepage (which sweetdate is by default i believe or by at least setting it up as per demo) in which case you need to go to wp admin > pages and edit the page that populates your homepage. By default in sweetdate this will be the ‘Home’ page and add in your title and other seo using your seo plugin on the edit screen.

Hope your solution is in there.

Now for the groups problem. Whenever someone creates a group or say whenever you create a unique member directory (e.g. cartoon character costumes) buddypress will create a new URL under it’s parent. eg uberon.net/groups/cartoon-characters or uberon.net/members/cartoon-characters

so the pages exist, they work fine, but whenever you try to edit them you are directed in admin to the parent page of groups or members. To get around this go to wp admin and add a new page. Title your page as the group or member type name again in this example it would be ‘Cartoon Characters’. Ensure wordpress as set the URL as uberon.net/cartoon-characters then go to the parent page option and select groups as it’s parent page.

That’s all, then publish this page. It won’t overide the existing page that buddypress has created, it will instead now give you admin access to seo that individual buddypress page in your wp admin pages area. So go back and seo it how you like.

This works for any pages buddypress creates under an existing parent page. Hope this all makes sense and helps.

and if this is not possible, what about a user type redirect upon login?

I know of peters redirect plugin but this only uses role based redirects, not user type based redirects.

i would like men redirected to the female user member list upon login and vice versa for females.

    Help?

There is a plugin called BuddyPress Activity Privacy

This allows you to set default privacy for activity items or allow members to set their privacy options. Options include ‘everyone’ ‘only registered members’ only admin’ ‘only me’

If you just want to switch the activity off go to wordpress admin and settings>buddypress>components and untick activity streams and save.

Just be careful because some buddypress plugins require the activity stream to be active to work and will give errors if the activity stream is disabled. If you aren’t running many plugins it should be fine.

    Hope this helps.

I had this same question recently and i solved it as below.

If you’re purely looking to showcase both sexes on seperate pages in a gallery / carousel type format then the BuddyPress Featured Members does the trick. ( http://rimonhabib.com/buddypress-featured-member-plugin-released )

It allows you to select a user type eg man or woman and place a filter eg newest/popular members to generate a shortcode that will display a nice carousel of your chosen user types.

*Please note once the plugin is installed you must manually select members for the plugin to use to populate the carousel by visiting their profiles as an admin and clicking the ‘make featured’ button. This might seem like extra work but it’s cool especially for dating sites as it allows you to choose your more attractive members to showcase on your site.

If you wanted to seperate the sexes during search results eg only females display to males and vice versa then this plugin is no good for that and i don’t have the answer.

    Hope this helps.
