sharmstrModeratorTechnically you can do it now. All you have to do is add a vc text block, then in the wysiwyg editor, add the rtmedia shortcode. The problem is that you’ll get the boring rtMedia style. What I’m hoping to do is add some styling options.

sharmstrModeratorI dont have time to write the code for you, but you’ll have to edit /kleo/buddypress/activity/entry.php. That’s the template for the individual activity. Keep in mind however, that you’ll probably have to do something fancy with the comments as well. An excerpt is show if the text of the activity is large, but not the case for second level comments. Depending on how you lay it out, it could get pretty ugly. I dont think it will be as easy as wrapping each activity into its own container (div).

sharmstrModeratorDo you have anything in your child theme overwriting them? Do you copy any css files to it? Have you tried turning off the child theme to see if it works that way? Really, using the child theme should have no effect on those presets, unless of course, you’ve added something to your child theme to overwrite those settings.

sharmstrModeratorDon’t create the registration menu item by creating a link. Use the BuddyPress registration item. If you dont see any of the BuddyPress items to add, then click on ‘screen options’ in the upper right hand corner and enable them. In doing it this way, it will be hidden once someone is logged in.
I went to your registration page and its NOT redirecting me. But, you dont have registration turned on. Go to Admin -> Settings -> General and click ‘anyone can register’.
Let me know if that doesnt fix everything for you.
You should take some time and read up on BuddyPress basics. Kleo will make things look great, but it will not configure your site for you. It will save you time and headaches in the long run 🙂

May 5, 2014 at 16:17 in reply to: Any W3 Total Cache recommended settings for kleo and tips for cdn? #16910sharmstrModeratorAnd one more note. Make sure you either have a test environment where W3 isn’t installed OR make sure your site is working correctly in all areas before enabling it. Lots of things will break (jquery, css) until you have it configured just right. I’ve seen a ton of “Kleo issues” posted on here that ended up being caching issues.

May 5, 2014 at 16:14 in reply to: Any W3 Total Cache recommended settings for kleo and tips for cdn? #16909sharmstrModeratorI used it for awhile and it worked well, but I had to do a ton of configuring. I’ve since moved the site over to SiteGround and using their pre-configured caching. Anyhow, to configure it, I found an old article about it and followed that. Do a search for w3 total cache settings for buddypress. Also, I noticed instant improvement without a caching plugin when I increased the APC memory in my php.ini. If your host has APC enabled, up your memory from 32 to 128.

sharmstrModeratorRight. Okay. Not sure what they are using for the ‘newsletter’ functionality, but the actual form is a Contact 7 Form. Here’s how I just did it (though again, not sure how it hooks to a newsletter subscribers db)
-Create a form in Contact Form 7. When you save it, it will give you a shortcode to use.
-Create a custom sidebar and call it Newsletter Signup (or whatever you want). ‘Appearance -> Sidebars’
-Add the form shortcode to the new sidebar. ‘Appearance -> Widgets’: Add a text widget to the new sidebar and paste the contact form 7 shortcode in it. Save it.
-Add the a widgetised sidebar to your shop page. Select your new sidebar for the sidebar. There are plenty of newsletter hooks (mailchimp, constant contact) for Contact Form 7. Just google it.

May 4, 2014 at 04:43 in reply to: Page title outside container when editing with VC and other bugs #16806sharmstrModeratorSomething non-Kleo is screwing up your titles, I think. They are fine for me on a fresh install using the code you provided me. Perhaps a plugin? Maybe that sidebar plugin?
As far as the css goes. If you’re going to be creating these two side bar pages with VC, its really not that big of deal to add vc_sidebar in the extra class box, then instead of adding custom css code to the page, add it to your child style.css. Really, the only reason I gave you the vc_sidebar suggestion is so that it doesnt screw with any other sidebar styling.
Do you have a link to the site so I can see the css being generated on that test page?

May 3, 2014 at 18:47 in reply to: Page title outside container when editing with VC and other bugs #16772sharmstrModeratorFirst, I apologize for not understanding when you clearly said ‘left sidebar’. I’m thought you were talking about the default page sidebar, not a vc added one. Yes, there is definitely a gap. My title is in the correct location, so yours not being correct has nothing to do with that gap.
The issue is that its getting a 40px padding-top from the .sidebar css rule which is also used for the page sidebar. So basically, you’re getting what looks like a double 40px padding, but you’re not really. Its just that the top is defined from the left container instead of the content container. There’s several ways to fix this. For example
1 – Edit the widgetised sidebar.
2 – Add ‘vc_sidebar’ to the Extra class name
3 – Save
4 – Click on the <>CSS button and addCOPY CODE.vc_sidebar { padding-top: 0; }
(or alternatively you can add it to your child style.css if you will using this on more than one page.)
Again, keep in mind that the wigetised sidebar is contained in the left content area, so you’ll still have some padding on the top compared to the main page sidebar on the right (if you have your page set up that way), but it will be top aligned with other content in that div. (hope that makes sense).
As far as your title issue goes, mine is printing in the correct location when your page code. I’ve tried it with the boxed and wide layout settings in Theme Options as well as Full-Width and Right Sidebar templates. Is this the only page where the title gets out of whack?

May 3, 2014 at 17:38 in reply to: Page title outside container when editing with VC and other bugs #16764sharmstrModeratorNot that this helps much, but I just tried to recreate your issue in #1 and #2. I couldn’t. I believe number 2 is happening because of #1. The sidebar should line up with the top of the content, which technically it is. Since the page title is below the title bar, its pushing your content AND the sidebar down, which is to be expected. In other words, #2 isnt really any issue.
Just for reference, I’m running BP 2.0.1, Kelo 1.4.2 and VC 4.1.2 (available in Kleo 1.4.2)
All I did to try to recreate your issue is create a new page and using VC created a textbox. If you’d like, you can post your page code here and I’ll try what you have. Switch to ‘classic mode’, switch to “text” and copy everything. Paste it back here and I’ll try it.

sharmstrModeratorJust updated to 1.4.2 and everything is great. You even fixed the ‘edit image’ layout (I was going to report that). I found one small issue. When an image can’t be loaded into the lightbox, an error is displayed but its really hard to read. In hindsight, I should have looked at the css before closing it since its probably hard to reproduce. Sorry about that. Anyhow, here’s the error.

sharmstrModeratorThe main purpose is formatting of masonry and carsosels. For example, if you use standard post and put an image at the top, it may look the same when you go to the post page, but there will be no image in masonry or carousels.
Image – Uses featured image.
Video – Uses video supplied in Theme General Settings
Audio – Uses audio supplied in Theme General Settings
Quote – While stylize the text
Gallery – Will add an image slider to images supplied in Theme General SettingsAlso note, you can add Spotify and Soundcloud by selecting Video Post and inputting the url into the Video URL of the Theme General Settings.

April 28, 2014 at 21:21 in reply to: Custom Default Avatar Images No Longer Showing w/ BuddyPress 2.0 #16252sharmstrModeratorYou should read the stick post in this forum that tells you how to upgrade Kleo.
The point of a child theme is that its upgrade safe in that they will not be overwritten by theme or plugin updates. BUT, keep in mind that there might be new functionality that your custom code (stuff in your child theme) will either have to be edited or removed completely in order for the new functionality to work.
Here’s how I work.
1 – I use a hidden forum section on the site to keep a log of all cutomizations I do and what files are effected.
2 – When a update is released, I read the change log to see if any of my customizations will be voided (new functionality added that my customization took care of), or need editing. I go through my topics in the hidden forum at this time.
3 – Backup the theme or plugin thats being updated.
4 – Update
5 – Make any changes to my customizations (determined in step 2).
6 – Test. If there are any issues I’ll start removing files from the child theme (again, make sure you have a backup) until I figure out where the problem is.If you are new to all of this, I strongly suggest that you read up on WP theme/child themes and BuddyPress. I see so many topics created in this forum that have nothing to do with Kleo. Lots of people assume Kleo does everything when all it really does is style things. Case in point. This thread 🙂

sharmstrModeratorThe difference is that one is controlled by WordPress and one is controlled by BuddyPress. The only part that Kleo plays in all of this is the icons they choose to use to represent those functions.
If you add rtMedia Pro, you’ll get another “like”.
If you add BuddyPress Like, you get even another like. Though the developer is working on combining WP likes with his plugin. Then you can hide BP favorites.
Its a joke, but not Kleo’s fault or responsibility to combine all of them.

COPY CODE/** * Add a default avatar to Settings > Discussion **/ add_filter( 'avatar_defaults', 'new_default_avatar' ); function new_default_avatar ( $avatar_defaults ) { //Set the URL where the image file for your avatar is located $new_avatar_url = 'http://yoururl/avatar.jpg'; //Set the text that will appear to the right of your avatar in Settings>>Discussion $avatar_defaults[$new_avatar_url] = 'Your New Default Avatar'; return $avatar_defaults; }

sharmstrModeratorDepends on what “top menu” you are talking about. If its the kleo top menu, then you set that in Appearance->Menus. Select your top menu and edit at will. Make sure you have the BuddyPress options visible using screen options. If you’re talking about the admin bar then it should already be there.

sharmstrModeratorNo problem.
The location thing is part of rtMedia pro. They have a new feature called attributes. I used that to create a location attribute. Adding attributes is not a simple task AND isn’t really in Kleo’s wheelhouse.
Speaking specifically about “location” of an image. As mentioned, I created that field using rtMedia Pro. Unfortunately, its a dropdown field, so you’d have to manually add all possible locations. No good. They have ‘reading/storing exif’ information on their roadmap which would me much better suited for “location”. Or at the very least, the ability for attributes to be text fields.
Back to ‘attributes’, it was just released so it has some growing to do. At the moment attributes only display when viewing an image. I’ve asked them to expand on this and make it possible to filter galleries based on attributes.
And my last 2 cents. I was fortunate enough to get rtMedia Pro when it was $49 and didnt do much. I’m not sure that I would have paid the $149 price tag 8 months ago, but wouldnt even hesitate today. Reason being is 1 – Their support is top notch. 2 – I’m building a media site and nothing compares to Pro and what they have on the roadmap. Their free version rocks and is probably enough for most people.
